Default Coach Nutt donates $100,000 to Ole Miss
Houston Nutt Gives $100,000 to Ole Miss - OleMissSports.com—Official Web Site of University of Mississippi Athletics

OXFORD, Miss. - Wanting to give something back to a place that has come to mean so much to him, University of Mississippi head football Coach Houston Nutt, along with his wife, Diana, has committed $100,000 to Ole Miss.

"This is something we've always wanted to do," Nutt said. "Diana and I have been talking about this since we moved to Mississippi. We wanted to give back because both the university and Oxford have been so good to us. We have felt so welcome and just love it here."

Half the gift will create scholarships for deserving student-athletes.

"It is refreshing to see coaches give back to a university," said UM Athletics Director Pete Boone. "Houston Nutt's contribution to our scholarship program will help ensure the athletics department's ability to continue to provide opportunities for young men and women to achieve their goals in life."

The other half of the gift will be used toward the university's Indoor Practice Facility.

"The Indoor Practice Facility is a building I go to work in every day," Nutt said. "I'm so appreciative to have it for our athletes and staff. It's a place I use, but more than that, it's a building very much used by the community. Every day, in addition to athletics events, there are community meetings or science fairs taking place. It's a place for everyone."

The 150,000-square-foot facility, which opened in 2004, was made possible by UM's Commitment to Excellence in Athletics Campaign, a $35 million initiative to upgrade the university's athletics programs.

Nutt joined the Ole Miss family in November 2007, when he was hired as the Rebels' head coach. Under Nutt's direction last season, his first, Ole Miss defeated the eighth-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders in the AT&T Cotton Bowl and finished 9-4 overall with a No. 14 national ranking.

That $100,000 that you claim Houston and Diana so graciously donated, that is from the Golden Handcuff contract. The one that dumb ass chancellor White donated to Nutt from the Razorback foundation. 3.2 million minus $100,000 ain't a drop in the bucket for that egomaniac. Add what he is robbing you for and I'd say he's coming out pretty darn good.

Oh my bad Cianne. I thought I was in the True Facts Forum. Although you may not like what was said, it is the truth. And your a smart enough guy who knows his sports, I feel you agree.

While true he took advantage of the mental midgets in the Arkansas administration on that buyout/donation/gift, his current pay is well within the mean for SEC coaches so "robbing" is less than an appropriate term.

As Ole Miss's #1 hater... I'll throw my two cents in.

I don't like Houston Nutt. I don't like Ole Miss athletics. I could care less about it anything in this article... but it is nice to see someone donate part of their earnings back to a university. Especially in these economic times. $100,000 doesn't seem like a lot but anything these days is good.

As for Sherrill donating $1,000,000... (when coaches didn't make as much money as they do now)... Sherrill really needed to do something to keep the people in Starkville loving him. That was his thing. I love the man to death but we kept him around for other reasons than his ability to coach. The difference between Nutt and Sherrill (in real life, not in football) is Sherrill and his whole family received some kind of degree from Mississippi State University. Nutt has no ties to UM. He donated $100,000 to a public university in the poorest state in the USA. He did it for just that reason.

The point I'm getting at it is while Sherrill donated more money, it's because he had ties to MSU other than being an employee. Nutt does not.

Again... I like that Nutt did this... but I still don't like him.
