2009 Arkansas @ Ole Miss Thread

Earlier on it seemed like this game was going to be hyped up, but it seems to have died down now that Ole Miss has dropped off the map. What will this game decide? Possibly 3rd place in the west? What are your thoughts?

This one is going to be considerably better than anybody thought before the season started. It's pretty clear Arkansas has improved as the season has worn on. After giving up 52 and 35 to UGA and Bama, the defense has stepped up the last 3 weeks, only giving up 19, 23, and 23 in the last 3 games.

If they can have a similar effort on defense this week, it'll be a great game, because their offense is pretty good already. Statistically speaking, Arkansas has the better offense, and Ole Miss has the better defense... should be a fun game to watch.

There's always the chance of a let down after an emotional loss, but I think the Hogs will be up for this one. Ole Miss hasn't given anyone a reason to fear their offense. If we keep McCluster in check, I don't think Jevan Snead can win the game for the Rebs. Jarius Wright will be closer to 100%, we get Michael Smith back, the defense is playing solid for the most part, and I don't look for Mallett to have two off games in a row. After a horrible showing against Bama, Mallett was 17-27 for 271 yards and 4 TD's in pretty much 3 quarters of work against Texas A&M and followed that with a 274 yard and 2 TD performance against Auburn. Mallett was very off against Florida, and still managed to throw for 225 yards against what is one of the nation's top secondaries.
The latest line I saw has OM favored by 5.5 points. I'd bet the house on Arkansas.

I agree completely, Jacobp. Even though we got five fumbles last week, and the score could have been much worse in favor of UF, we still sacked Tebow half a dozen times. That is A LOT, especially for a "horrible defensive team" in Arkansas. I think we are on the right track, and we can finish the season off undefeated if we play every team as hard as we did Florida with our starters back. We didn't have as much depth as we usually do and the Ole Miss game can prove to everyone that doesn't know already that Arkansas is not a fluke. I am hoping for a good close game, but I wouldn't mind if we blew them out.

I am surprised that Arky doesn't have the edge. I thought if anything it would be OM by 3 (home field advantage)
