Default Should Vick Be Allowed to Return to the NFL?
Vick is out of jail now. Rumor is the NFL Commissioner is considering reinstating him but suspending him for the first 4 games of this season. Do you think Vick should even be allowed to return to the NFL at all?

Theres been players who have done a whole lot worse than Vick (Dante Stallworthe) and was allowed to play.My opinion, dog fighting is not that big of deal.Yeah maybe it's illegal but if it wasn't for PETA no one would care.

This is true, but is that really justification to allow him back in? I mean, those guys probably shouldn't have been allowed back in either. I know if I were convicted of felony charges and sent to prison, I couldn't come back to my job. Just sayin.

he should be reinstated right now with no suspension. as CN said, there have been players who beat on and injured actual human beings and didn't get this level of punishment. the debt to society has been repaid. enough.

Agreed. That's kind of my take on it, too. Just because other guys have gotten off light doesn't make it right. I think they should have all been banned from the league. It IS possible to be a pro athlete and not a felon, since the majority of players seem to pull it off; and in my mind, I wish that was a requirement. Just like with most high paying, highly sought after occupations, if you go to prison, you find a new occupation when you get out.

And they should be gone, too. If my attorney, my doctor, or my stock broker go to prison on felony charges, they don't get to come back and be lawyers, doctors, or brokers again. To me, it's the same thing... with great rewards come great responsibilities.

I in no way approve of what he did but killing dogs is not as bad as killing humans and there is guys inthe NFL guilty of the former. Yes he should be allowed back in conditionally.

Sure, I get that. His debt to society has been paid. I agree 100%. But playing pro sports and getting millions of dollars to do it should be a privilege not a right. Like I said, if I committed the same offense, my employers wouldn't give 2 schits about my debt to society. They're not going to hire me back.

let the market decide it. any team that takes him is going to get heat from fans and animal groups, maybe sponsors will pull out. if that means nobody takes him and he has to play in the UFL or CFL, so be it. it's ridiculous to tell a man who did his time that he can't earn a living.

I agree but htat is not the way they are running the NFL right now. They all should not be in there all the way back to Ray Lewis, but they were allowed back in the league so how can you not let Vick back in. I guess there will have to be an example set somewhere and if they choose to use him and stick with it from now on then I am ok with it.

attorneys and doctors (even stock brokers) are very different than people who play a ballgame for a living, wouldn't you say?

Exactly. Paying his debt to society means he gets to be a free man... it doesn't mean he gets to have his life back just the way it was before. Being a professional athlete is a luxury.

I'd say they're exactly the same, in that they all have codes of conduct and standards they have to live up to in order to fulfill their contracts and maintain their employment. If they can't live up to those codes of conduct, they're welcome to still make a living once they get out of prison... they just aren't allowed to make one doing the same things as before they went in.

The NFL has every right to reinstate whoever they want. But, if they're serious about changing the league for the better, and changing the public's increasingly poor opinion of it, they'll start taking a harder stance on felons... few people ever change their behavior if they never suffer consequences, feel the repercussions of their actions, or have to "face the music". Pacman is a prime example... played footsie with that guy for years, and he never changed. He always thought the rules didn't apply to him; and he always thought he had a safety net (talent). Most folks need to land on their back, and not their feet, before they see the error of their ways.

Right. Those people actually do something worthwhile for a living (for the most part) yet pro athletes get paid millions of dollars to throw a ball around.

Sorry, but being a person of good character should have some say on being able to play pro sports and get paid an astronomical salary to do so.

Vick isn't the only one either. Of course there's Ray Lewis and others and those douchebags shouldn't be allowed to play either.
