Default Who has best odds of winning '09 BCS title?
Didn't take'em long did it.......

Some have USC as the early favorite to win the BCS Championship next year. Of course, that’s assuming quarterback Mark Sanchez returns. He has yet to announce whether he will enter the draft.

That didn’t stop BetOnline.com from making the Trojans a 4-to-1 favorite to win it all. BCS champion Florida and runner-up Oklahoma are listed at 5-to-1 and 7-to-1, respectively, with Texas (8-to-1) and Ohio State (9-to-1) next.

Oddsmaker Stan Simmons says the odds are determined by several factors, from how a team finished the season to the number of starters returning to the schedule and recruiting class. Also taken into consideration is the public’s perception.

"USC is a very good team," Simmons said. "We all know they reload, and if Sanchez comes back they would probably be an even heavier favorite."

If I were a betting man, I’d say Sanchez will be suiting up on Sundays in 2009 after coming off the performance he had in the Rose Bowl.

In case you’re wondering, Notre Dame was listed at 25-to-1. The Fighting Irish whipped Hawaii 49-21 in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl and have a favorable schedule.

"[They have] lots of five-star recruits coming next year," Simmons said. "They have the players. If there's any team that's kind of gonna put it together and Charlie Weis figures things out, Notre Dame could be the team that goes from the outhouse to the penthouse."

I wouldn't bet on that happening. Here is the list of BetOnline.com’s 2009 BCS Championship odds:

USC 4-to-1
Florida 5-1
Oklahoma 7-1
Texas 8-1
Ohio State 9-1
Florida State 15-1
Virginia Tech 15-1
Georgia 20-1
Miami ( Fla ) 20-1
LSU 20-1
Alabama 25-1
Notre Dame 25-1
Oregon 30-1
Penn State 30-1
Texas Tech 30-1
Nebraska 40-1
Georgia Tech 40-1
North Carolina 40-1

Great post! I'm a little surprised about USC though, given that they lose 10 starters on defense.

I am surprised that Ole Miss isn't on the list while South Carolina and Arkansas are. I would think we would have a better chance, although i don't see it in the cards for any of us.

Interesting about ND and its favorable schedule. What, exactly, has been unfavorable about the last 2? I mean, other than an annual meeting with USC, their schedule is full of cripples. Their SOS THIS year was ranked 78th... how much more favorable can it possibly be? Okay, I just looked; and it's even more of a sorry schedule than this year. Next year, they actually play Washington (0-12) AND Washington State (2-11). I'm going to go ahead and say it now. If ND gets to the NCG with that pathetic schedule, I'll be pissed. They'd have to go undefeated to make it; and with USC on it, that ain't happening, so no worries.

Hey, 20-1? I'll take those odds.

If I had to make a guess right now, I'd say Ohio State and Texas. Florida probably one of the strongest teams returning, but just because of the strength of conference I'd say they will have a little tougher time making it back. Texas is going to have virtually everybody back, and Ohio State did look improved. Like it or not, tOSU and Texas will be ranked high pre-season, and they could have the easiest roads to the title next year.

There is that saying, "To be the best, you have to play the best." This is exactly illustrated by the SEC and is why every team in the conference is good to great. This couldn't be better proved than by LSU, Vandy, and Ole Miss this bowl season by beating teams that were some of the "best" in their conference or the nation.

Notre Dame's schedule might lead it to a number of wins, but if they want to become the Notre Dame of Rudy again, they need to travel down south and start playing some tough teams like they used to. The ones highlighted are not tough teams. If they loaded up their schedule like it used to be, there would be some lean years, but I guarantee they would be back on top after that.

This list is garbage. North Carolina doesn't have a 40-1 chance. Hell Iowa doesn't have a 75-1 chance. But worst of all has to be Notre Dame at 25-1.....

They have Notre Dame listed because that's how betonline.com will make their money. There are tons of rich ND alums that will bet that garbage and BO.com will make enough on those losing wagers alone to pay all the winners for this game and many many more

I must say, that list is pretty impressive. But I still highly doubt they win a NC next year.

I do too... but considering last year and this year's recruiting classes... I'd say they could very well win the ACC... and given the strength of that conference, it's not unfathomable that a team could navigate through it with 1 loss.
