BATON ROUGE -- Fresno State, which took USC to the wire in one of the most thrilling games of the 2005 football season, will visit Tiger Stadium for the first time in LSU football history on Oct. 21, rounding out the 2006 schedule for the Tigers.
The Bulldogs climbed has high as No. 16 in the country last year and went on to play Tulsa in the Liberty Bowl.
The Oct. 21 date was made available when LSU’s game at Auburn was moved to Sept. 16 to provide a balanced home and road schedule for the Tigers in 2006.
LSU opens with home games against UL-Lafayette on Sept. 2 and Arizona on Sept. 9 before traveling to Auburn on Sept. 16.
The Tigers renew an old series with Tulane in Tiger Stadium on Sept. 23, followed by a home game vs. Mississippi State and a road game in Gainesville against Florida.
LSU returns home to face Kentucky on Oct. 14 and Fresno State on Oct. 21, and then have an open date on Oct. 28 before going to Knoxville to play Tennessee on Nov. 4.
The Tigers finish the regular season with home games against Alabama on Nov. 11 and Ole Miss on Nov. 18 prior to their traditional season finale against Arkansas in Little Rock.
The LSU-Arkansas game has been played on the Friday after Thanksgiving since 1996, but it has not yet been determined if the game will be played on Friday, Nov. 24, or Saturday, Nov. 25. The day and time of the game will be determined by the television networks that are contracted with the Southeastern Conference.
Prior to the move of the Auburn game to Sept. 16, LSU’s schedule featured five consecutive home games to open the season, and no home games between Oct. 14 and Nov. 11. The move of the Auburn game balances LSU’s schedule, providing LSU with no more than two home games in a row and no back-to-back road games.
