Default Tennesse WR Coach to LSU?
Frank Wilson, the wide receivers coach at Tennessee, is being considered for an opening on the LSU football staff, reports Glenn Guilbeau, who covers the Tigers for Gannett Louisiana News. Wilson is in line to replace LSU running backs coach Larry Porter, who left to become the head football coach at Memphis. Wilson, a New Orleans native, was up for an LSU assistant coaching job in 2003, back when he was the head coach at O. Perry Walker High School. Since then, he's been a running backs coach at Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi, and became a Volunteer this year. "LSU coaches with Louisiana ties have been few and far between," writes Guilbeau. "Wilson's ties to talent-rich New Orleans and throughout the Southeast would greatly benefit LSU's recruiting efforts."

Don't forget he was on staff with Mississippi State for a while too. He's been around the past three years.

Heard that he's not just being considered, but actually has an offer from LSU. We'd like to keep him on staff since he is a very good recruiter and our receivers did a nice job after getting over the injury bug. I think he's also one of if not the lowest paid assistants on our staff so we might have to up the ante if we want to keep him.

Yeah he was on our staff for a couple of days.

From what I've read, he is known for his recruiting prowess in the south, particularly Mississippi.

Having been the football coach at O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, he definitely has a lot of connections with high schools in the region, which includes Southeast Texas, Louisiana, South Mississippi, and South Alabama. He sounds like a good fit for LSU.

Done deal. Wilson accepted the offer and will be running backs coach, I think and recruiting coordinator. Great addition for LSU in my opinion, he is good coach and a great recruiter. There also is the matter of one of the best '11 defensive tackles in the country probably changing his pledge for the Vols to the Tigers since he is Wilson's cousin.

Sounds good. Hey, you gotta respect those cousin deals!

With his New Orleans' roots, he will fit in very well here. I hated to lose Larry Porter, but he will make Memphis a good head coach and it is certainly a step up the coaching ladder for him.

I wish we could get Orgeron from you guys, too. That Cajun was not a good head coach at Ole Miss, but he is a gangbusters recruiter and line coach.

But do you guys really need someone who is a strong New Orleans recruiter? Seems like that would be a given for LSU to get all those players.

Great pick up for LSU, Wilson was really underrated.

Lane has already stated that he is not interested in the Notre Dame job.

I'm excited about the pick up for the Tigers and his strong ties to Louisiana and strong recruiting abilities. Maybe he can show Miles how to manage the clock during the 4th quarter!!!
