Default Tigers End Off-week With Scrimmage
Heading into the bye week Les Miles Tigers practiced for a final time today.
“We finished the week with a scrimmage that was probably 120 plays,” Les Miles said, “and looked at some things, some game plan that we want to work on within our own system.”
“Offensive production today was good. Some ones vs. ones, mostly ones vs. twos. “
Miles said that referees were present, hoping that they would help the Tigers clean up some problem areas. “We looked at onsides, alignments and some of those things. And frankly got some things done.”
“We had some young guys go today. Those guys that are being red shirted had some live reps today and it was really fun to watch. (Michael) Ford made a few nice plays, a couple of defensive linemen showed up, Sam Montgomery showed up. “
Miles said that Russell Shepard was at practice today, and should be okay for Auburn.
Earlier in the week Jordan Jefferson said he might want to take more “chances” in the passing game. Miles responded.
“I don’t know if taking chances is the word I want to use, but I would like to see him throw the ball down the field more. He is improving every day,” Miles added. “experience, it’s the greatest cure.”
In addition to the experience, Miles would also like to see improvements in getting the plays n.
“I think there are some things we can do better in communications.” Miles said. “There are coaches signaling in the play, and that should ease the burden of communications, because the quarterback has to communicate it to the line and maybe the backs.”
LSU has also looked at ways to speed up the offense.
“We have been no huddle a lot.” Miles added, “There are two different tempos we use in the no-huddle. One we take a nice long look at the defense, and the other we go.”
The Tigers have begun game planning for Auburn.
“We’ve looked at the Auburn film and we are starting to attack them with pieces of today’s practice.”
When asked about the opinions out on talk radio and the internet, Miles responded.
“I can tell you that I don’t spend a lot of time listening to experts. I spend a lot of time talking to my assistants trying to get the best recipe for plays and touches to those players that are good players.“
