Ex-LSU defensive lineman lands at Troy

Former LSU defensive lineman Sidell Corley has officially become a part of the Troy football program, the school announced this evening. Corley redshirted his freshman season at LSU in 2007, then played in two games for the Tigers in 2008. "Sidell has decided to come here to Troy," head coach Larry Blakeney said. "I met with him and his father, he's been released, everything is on the up-and-up. He's a likable young man who has been through a lot and hopefully this will be a good experience for him."

Corley has certainly been through a lot lately, and it's the basis for the school to file a petition with the NCAA to allow him to begin playing right away instead of sitting out a season as is normally the case. The redshirt sophomore's mother was shot and killed in her own home, and his uncle drowned. Both of those unfortunate incidents occurred this past May.

According to the press release, he Troy staff is working with Corley's family to apply for a NCAA waiver to allow him to become eligible immediately. He was on the field with the Trojans on Friday, but he will not be jumping head first into action. "We are going to try and work him in slowly according to what he can do and try to get him ready to help this team if he's eligible, if he's not eligible we will nurture him through the year," Blakeney said.

If Corley is granted a waiver, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
