Default Breakthrough Players on Offense
Terrance Toliver
Finally getting his chance to be a starter replacing the departed Demetrius Byrd, Toliver looks to finally put his considerable talents to work. A long strider who has had to become a more polished route runner, Toliver looks to improve on his solid finish to the 2008 season. Toliver has good hands, and excellent top end speed which is exactly what LSU will need to stretch the field. He will be given every opportunity to succeed in Gary Crowton’s offense.

Josh Dworaczyk
Getting the most out of the newcomers on the offensive line will be made a bit easier for LSU offensive line coach Greg Studrawa if Josh Dworaczyk can play up to the level he did when seeing the field in limited action last season. A huge, agile and aggressive offensive lineman, Dworaczyk has the unenviable task of replacing All-American Herman Johnson. While the mammoth Johnson was legendary for his size, there were parts of his game that could have been improved. The ability to move, and move quickly, is where Dworaczyk can be an improvement over Johnson. Staying healthy this season will be the most important thing for the development of the offensive line.

Deangelo Peterson
With Richard Dickson firmly entrenched as the starter at the tight end position, Peterson is looking to add to the position since his switch from wide receiver. With the rare blend of size and speed that he brings to the position, Peterson can be a threat in the passing game. While it remains to be seen if he possesses the blocking skills to be an every down player, the physical nature that Peterson has brought to the field in limited action last year leads you to believe that he will develop those skills. Gaining experience, and confidence, will be key for Peterson’s development.

Jordan Jefferson
While some may scoff at the returning starter and MVP of the Tigers bowl win last season being a breakthrough player, Jefferson is still a relative unknown. If he produces at the level that he did in his bowl win, Jefferson will become a name on the national scene. Jefferson possesses the rare size, speed, mobility, arm combination that is rare in the college game. He has the tools to be successful, and Gary Crowton is creative enough to make him a star.

Russell Shepard
The hardest question to answer about Shepard is “What will he do“. Conventional wisdom says “everything”. Unafraid to take a chance, Les Miles will surely exploit every mismatch possible with Shepard. It is almost a certainty that Shepard will make an impact this season. It remains to be seen in what capacity.

Josh Dworaczyk will not disappoint on the offensive line. Speed kills on the line as well! By midseason, Russell Shepard will be headlining the Tiger offense. We just don't know at which position or positions that will be in. Jordan Jefferson will make this Tiger offense tick and give opposing defenses fits. If Jefferson stays healthy, Charles Scott could have be the one to benefit the most with an All American season.

Can you imagine both Sheppard and Jefferson in the backfield? Unreal.
