Default Miles Talks About Arizona State

Report from DandyDon...
The LSU football team held a light practice this afternoon and will fly out of Baton Rouge early Friday morning to Tempe, Arizona, the home of the Fiesta Bowl. The team will hold a walk-through practice Friday afternoon in preparation for Saturday night's 8:15 kick off against Arizona State. LSU is anywhere from a two-point underdog to a three-point favorite to win the game.

I listened to Coach Les Miles' radio talk show last night. Miles sounded very upbeat about playing the game and said the team was excited about starting the season. Coach Miles opened the show by letting the victims of hurricane Katrina and the people of the gulf coast know that the players, coaches and his family are continuing to pray for a speedy recovery. Coach Miles said it was four days after the hurricane before some of the players knew the well being of their family members. Coach Miles said LSU will be playing a very good Arizona State team that is very good on both sides of the ball. Miles seemed very confident that LSU would be able to contain ASU's offense and do some good things against the Sun Devils' defense. Coach Miles said the players had grown together as a team the last 10 days and he gave credit to Kyle Williams and Andrew Whitworth for being team leaders.

The first caller of the night was Mr. X from New Orleans who asked how the team has practiced the last 10 days. Coach Miles' reply was that the team has practiced well. He said that during practice the team was able to put the problems of the last 10 days behind them and concentrate on football. When asked about playing the first game on the road, Coach Miles said that some teams play well on the road and that some teams do not. The coach said that this LSU team is an experienced team with great senior leadership and he believes that this will be a very good road team. He said the team would be fired-up to play and wants very badly to win for the people of Louisiana.

When asked how things were looking for playing the Tennessee game at home on September 24, Coach Miles said that the situation in the PMAC was improving each day and that hotel rooms should be available for Tennessee fans in two weeks. Coach Miles said he was looking forwarding to playing his first game at home as the head coach of LSU in an SEC game against Tennessee.

When asked if losing Alley Broussard caused him to change the games plan on offense, Coach Miles said that Broussard is a great back but that Joseph Addai, Justin Vincent and Shyrone Carey are all very capable and that the game plan would not change. When asked about Skyler Green and all the other outstanding wide receivers, Miles said LSU would use all the wide receivers to the best of their ability. He said Skyler Green was in great shape and probably a few pounds lighter than in 2003 when he had an All-American type season. When asked about special teams, the coach responded that special teams players have worked very hard to improve over the 2004 season but would not name who would be doing the kicking and punting. When ask to compare being at LSU to being at Oklahoma State, the coach said the reason he came to LSU was to be able to compete at a higher level and siad that he and his family would like to be at LSU for a very long time.

When asled about the linebackers, the coach sounded very excited. Miles said that Cameron Vaughn is an outstanding linebacker and said that Jason Spadoni is a very aggressive linebacker. Coach Miles said that when E.J. Kuale returns in two weeks the linebacker position would be salty. One caller asked what his philosophy was at playing starters in games when the outcome had already been determined and Miles said that he did not want his starters in games at such a point.

Many thanks, GP! What time is your game Saturday? Ours will be late; 8:15 Central Time, so you should be able to catch it on ESPN. I hope I can see your game. I did get to watch the Boise State shellacking; made the SEC proud!

So GeauxTo....whats your take on this game?
Most think it's going to be close since the game was moved.
Miles talked more about LSU than ASU
Is ASU really that good?

Good luck to the Tigers tomorrow night.
I hope they put a major beating on em.

GeauxTo, I believe your game trails ours on ESPN 4:35 or so on ESPN 1. I think you and Bama play at the same time. They are on ESPN 2.

I know you were asking GeauxTo this but I want to give my opinion anyway.
The line went from LSU -7 to Arizona State -1.5. With that being said ASU is obviously getting the action based on the circumstances that have taken place lately, but IMHO LSU wins this game on pure talent and speed.
LSU - 28
ASU - 17

First, let me say that ASU beating LSU helps the Trojans, particularly if USC stomps the Scum Devils as badly as they did last year. That being said, I would rather USC lose to UCLA than see ASU win this game. I have been a marginal ASU fan since coming out here. Their fans are generally respectful and like having a good time. They have, however, been moved to my pond slime list along with any team coached by Jim Tressel, Tommie Tubberville, or any Holtz. Since both USC and Ole Miss have a bye, I am a full-fledged Bayou Bengal for the weekend.

Second, I think we will see one of two things here. LSU will either win by a lot or lose by a little. Based on depth, team strength, and general skill, at Baton Rouge LSU would have probably pulled away in the four quarter to make with a 37-21 win. They may be in for a 17-14 loss at Tempe.

Tempe is actually a fairly tough place to win and the buzz out here is that the Slum Devil faithful actually consider this their biggest game of the year.

I didn't realize that some ole miss fans were still hating on Tuberville for dissing them. I thought it was a little slimey at the time myself but that was foreverago. Does he still catch hell when AU plays there? I figured that fued was dead and buried by now.

I'm at the LSU campus now (4:20 Friday afternoon). The team left this morning. I am getting a sense that they were really up and that the coaches were really up. If they get out there and play to their potential, I don't think ASU can stop them. They could score lots of points. Speed is everywhere; the running game, the receivers, the D, the secondary. ASU will have to be really good to stop this offense and score points on this defense. I don't think they're good enough. Keep your fingers crossed! I'm hoping (and thinking that we might) blow them completely out of the water! Can hardly wait!

We do not despise biga$$ ears, rubber clown nose, and whiny voice.

We do not merely despise and detest Tubbie, we used to corporately pray nightly for him to contract a painful, disfiguring disease.

Then, once we realized that a disfiguring disease would be an improvement, we began to pray that Auburn would go undefeated and not have a chance at the National Championship.

It worked.

I actually think that having to watch the Orange Bowl last year was more painful than the disfiguring disease.

So...yeah, we still grudge him...but last year made it easier.

ESPN had an article that quoted Keller saying on film LSU was the "fasted" team he has ever seen! Here is the link...
