BATON ROUGE -- LSU's track and field team opened the 2006 outdoor season Thursday, hosting the LSU Tiger Relays at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Sophomore Rabun Fox headlined the day for LSU, easily winning the men's hammer throw with a mark of 54-11. The Houma, La., native led the field by nearly five meters.

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers had strong showings in the 5,000-meter run. For the men, Sophomores Matthew Guy (15:38.04) and Jace Gohres (15:58.28) garnered third and fifth place respectively in the event.

Senior Sarah Colosimo led all Lady Tigers, crossing the finish line in 18:07.49 for a sixth place finish. Jennifer Stark (18:22.65), Christy Zirkle (18:32.28), and Lynley Roche' (20:08.82) rounded out LSU's entries in the event. Colosimo, Stark, and Zirkle improved on their personal bests at the distance.

The meet resumes tomorrow in earnest, with field events beginning at noon. High school events will begin tomorrow as well, commencing at 3 p.m. The meet will run into the weekend with action beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
