Given High Fives: 1,091 Rep Power: 2464 | LSU/Florida DandyDon on LSU vs. Florida... I received several emails from readers who believe that Florida is the best team remaining on the schedule, and that very well could be true. I am worried about the game because I believe Florida's talent is very comparable to LSU's, and because of the revenge factor. LSU beat Florida last season at the Swamp 24-21 in front of 90,377 fans, the largest home crowd of the season last year for the Gators. Florida's offense is led on offense by quarterback Chris Leak (6’0”, 195, JR) and wide receivers Dallas Baker (6’3”, 205, SR) and Chad Jackson ( 6’1", 205, JR). Florida's best all-purpose back is DeShawn Wynn. Florida is a very physical team on defense with great speed at each position. Defensive ends Jeremy Mincey (6’4”, 270) and Joe Cohen (6’2”, 270) are two of the best in the nation and linebackers Earl Everett (6’2”, 220) and Brandon Siler (6’2”, 230) are very good. LSU has only beaten Florida three of the last ten times the two school have met. In 1997 LSU beat Florida 28-21, in 2002 the Tigers beat the Gators 36-7 and in 2004 LSU won 24-21. In 2003, Florida handed LSU their only loss of the season, 19-7 at Tiger Stadium. LSU and Florida have played each other 52 times in a series that started in 1937 with Florida holding a 27-21-3 advantage. It appears that LSU came out of the Vanderbilt game with no major injuries, but Ryan Miller did leave the game with knee injury in the first quarter. Miller was playing in place of Rudi Niswanger. Niswanger was banged up a little but did replace Miller and played the rest of the game. Miller is listed as doubtful for the Florida game. Buster Davis took a couple of hard hits in the game and is listed as day-to-day. Davis suffered a mild concussion in the Mississippi State game. Shyrone Carey did not play in the Vanderbilt game, but did dress out and should be available for the Florida game. I am not sure why Carey did not play, but it could be because Justin Vincent was playing very well. The NCAA released their weekly stats Sunday and LSU is ranked high in several statistics. LSU leads the SEC by allowing only 62.5 yards per game rushing which is second in the nation. LSU is 7th in the nation in punt returns averaging 17.3 yards. LSU is ranked 8th in net punting with 39.5 yards per game. The LSU scoring defense is 24th in the nation allowing 18.5 points per game. LSU is ranked No. 28 in total defense allowing 312 yards per game. On offense, Joseph Addai is ranked second in the SEC averaging 95.2 yards per game. Skyler Green is second in the SEC averaging 15.5 yards in punt returns and is ranked fourth in the conference in all-purpose yardage.
