The first three quarters were not pretty as the Tigers made just about every mistake a football team can make. LSU had five turnovers, two missed field goals and a dropped touchdown pass and committed 12 penalties for 112 yards. LSU only led 126 at the end of three quarters, but LSU's offense, led by the passing of JaMarcus Russell and the receiving of Early Doucet, scored 22 fourth quarter points to win the game going away. I was very disappointed with the number of turnovers and penalties in the game and I believe that most of the mistakes can be corrected. LSU's penalty yardages was almost of much as Vanderbilt total offense. LSU's defense held Vanderbilt to 138 yards. I was more than pleased with the aggressive style of defense by Bo Pelini. At half time, Jay Cutler only had four completions in 14 attempts. I thought that Ronnie Prude, Jessie Daniels, Craig Steltz, Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Zenon played great in the defensive backfield. In fact, I'd say that Ronnie Prude had his best game ever as a Tiger. In the defensive line, I thought all four of the starters, Kyle Williams, Claude Wroten, Chase Pittman and Melvin Oliver, played very well as did Tyson Jackson and Tim Washington. At the linebacker position, I was very happy with the way Cameron Vaughn and Ali Highsmith played. I do not recall seeing Ken Hollis making any plays and I do not believe that E.J. Kuale saw any action. On the offensive side of the ball, LSU had a total of 479 yards and surely would have gone over 600 yards if not for four fumbles and two dropped passes. I thought that JaMarcus Russell played very well except for about half of the third quarter when he seemed to have lost a little confidence. Russell completed 21 of 32 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns. In the last two games, Russell has completed 42 of 56 passes. I thought Joseph Addai ran hard. Addai picked up 102 yards on 24 carries. I was also very happy to see Justin Vincent run with more confidence. Vincent picked up 77 yards on only 11 carries. Shyrone Carey did not play in the game and I do not know if Carey was hurt or did not play for other reasons. Dwayne Bowe led LSU in receptions with five for 98 yards and one touchdown. Early Doucet also had five catches for 94 yards. As for injuries in the game, Ryan Miller was the only player I saw leave the field with an injury. From what I could tell, it looked like Miller bruised his knee and I do not believe the injury is serious. LSU's next game will be against Florida at LSU Saturday, October 15. Florida defeated Mississippi State 35-9 at the Swamp yesterday and, in my opinion, the Gators did not look any better against MSU than LSU did. I believe that the game will be a great one and if the Tigers can cut down on penalties and turnovers I believe LSU will win.
I lost a bet so here's my new sig for awhile. |
