Trent Johnson is his name. Why would you leave Stanford's basketball program to taking over of LSU's basektball program? Stanford's program gets all the love from ESPN,etc.
I know we're building a new practice facility.
Discuss.

Stanford’s Trent Johnson will be hired as LSU’s head basketball coach, according to reports from national and state media. CBS Sportsline.com college basketball writer Gary Parrish said LSU had reached a deal in principle with Johnson and an official announcement was expected in the next 24 hours. LSU officials did not return calls and e-mails seeking comment. Johnson, 51, a Boise State graduate, has compiled an 81-48 record in four seasons, with three NCAA Tournament appearances and one NIT appearance. He was named Pac-10 coach of the year after the Cardinal finished 28-8 overall and second in the conference at 13-5. Stanford reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, defeating Cornell and Marquette before losing to Texas. Johnson, who was in the final year of his contract, was scheduled to meet later this year with Cardinal Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby about an extension. The San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported that Bowlsby repeatedly had said Johnson would receive an extension after the season. Johnson served as the head coach at Nevada from 1999-2004, leading the Wolf Pack to the Sweet 16 in 2004. Reports that Johnson is LSU’s choice come one day after Washington State Coach Tony Bennett, Massachusetts Coach Travis Ford and Clemson Coach Oliver Purnell all withdrew from consideration.
I'm not sure how "Stanford gets all the love from ESPN", but they are reporting the story on the local radio stations here as well.
Seems like a pretty good hire for LSU.....Congrats!!

This was a surprise to me. I figured we were waiting to get an AD in place, which proved to be true, but this happened so quickly after the AD appointment that it was a surprise.
If I'm Johnson, the first thing I'm doing is heading to freshman Anthony Randolph's house before he hires an agent.
We've got to have the guy next year.
Trent Johnson will be LSU's first black head basketball coach for the men's team. Johnson is 51 years old and is known as a great recruiter and teacher. He posted an 81-48 record at Stanford with three straight NCAA appearances.
