Miles: Perrilloux could return to team -- but not yet
LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has a chance to return to the football team, but he has much to do before that, LSU coach Les Miles said Wednesday at a press conference to kick off spring football. "Quickly, Ryan Perrilloux, I suspended him indefinitely. He broke team rules, and I really don't want to spend a lot of time thinking and talking about him," Miles said. "His responsibility is to do everything right and get back on this team. And I'll focus on the guys that are competing for jobs on our team currently." The defending national champion Tigers open spring practice on Friday.
Perrilloux was suspended indefinitely by Miles on Feb. 18 for continuing to miss team meetings, class and other team functions. It was Perrilloux's third suspension over the last 10 months and his second indefinite suspension. The junior from East St. John High outside of New Orleans was suspended indefinitely last May after Baton Rouge Police cited him for trying to enter a gambling casino with false identification. That suspension was lifted in August with the beginning of preseason practice after Perrilloux performed community service as well as running Tiger Stadium steps in early morning hours and other duties handed down by Miles.
Perrilloux was suspended for less than a week last November for his role in a bar fight near the LSU campus. He was not arrested, but Miles did not let him travel with the team to the Alabama game in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Nov. 3. He returned to the team the following Monday. Miles was asked for more information about the suspension of Perrilloux but offered little. "My discipline is about team discipline," Miles said. "You will never know stuff. And then at some point in time, you'll get to know stuff and then it'll be a concrete piece. The point that I'm making to you is with these things, you take into account that a promise was made on a mother's couch."
Miles recruited and signed Perrilloux, the No. 1 prep quarterback in the nation, in February of 2005 after just replacing former LSU coach Nick Saban in early January. Perrilloux was likely not coming to LSU had Saban remained coach and had committed to Texas before changing his mind and signing with LSU. "You take into account the responsibility that you have to your program and your team, and those are the two things," Miles said. "Not the media. Not the voting media. Not who should be and what should be suspended and how long and what do you think. You guys get no vote. You got no say. You've got speculation, and whatever you'd like to do. OK. But the reality of it is this is a team member that's no longer a part of the team in the short term. It's a very serious issue, and it's not something that I'm going to speculate and encourage conversation. He's suspended. Let's go on." (Monroe Newstar)
This is kind of suprising. I've read some LSU faithfull saying that he is a problem and needs to go. A lot of talent wasted if he doesn't make it back. Should be interesting to see what happens with him.

Yeah, it's kind of a "Dr. Jekle and Mr. Hyde" type of situation for Tiger fans. On the one hand, we realize he is a major distraction and probably needs to go before he really causes problems at the wrong time; but on the other hand, we realize that maybe we need to hold out because of the possibility that he can change and therefore, needs another chance (interpretation: we could really use his talent and experience next season).
I still think he will not participate in Spring drills, but will be allow back on the team at the first of the summer; and also receive a one game suspension against App. St. in the season opener.
Maybe he will turn over a new leaf and take his role on the team more seriously. I am hoping he will decide it is a lot more fun to be a respectable leader on the team, than a detriment. Of course when the time comes to play LSU next season, i could be sorry I hoped he would return! Honestly, though, I wish him much luck and peace.
This is Miles just trying to sound like he's taking it seriously so he can avoid the criticism when Perriloux gets his usual playing time. Only at LSU could a player be suspended 3 times within 10 months and still start; especially if he's QB1.
Possibly, but the kid hasn't robbed a convinent store, rapped or murdered anyone, stoled a car, hit any women or even been busted on drug charges. I understand why fans of opposing teams would like to see Perrilloux hit the road, but I don't think Miles is going to give up on the kid for those petty things. His crime: stupidity!!! I mean, the kid didn't show up for some classes, he spent a counterfeit $20 dollar bill and he presented a fake I.D. Heck, those things don't even show up in the Fuller Cup Point System! Perrilloux is just stupid, but IMO he hasn't done anything yet to warrant a permanent dismissal from the team. Every sanctimonious coach in the league would be doing the same thing as Miles right now, but they wouldn't admit it!

What has he done that has been bad?
He was of interest in an investigation because his brother gave him counterfeit 20's.
He used a fake ID to get into a casino.
He was at a bar when other members of the team got in a fight.
He missed a team meeting.
Maybe you should look at Bama, where players are actually doing bad things and not getting kicked off.

So you are claiming he had no idea. Ok... so he's stupid. Great.

Is this supposed to be a defense? Using a fake ID to get into a bar is one thing, I mean... all college students do it, but what the hell was he trying to get into a casino for?? He's a college kid, he's not even supposed to HAVE any money! Was he going to use some more of those fake 20's??

I know you don't actually believe he had nothing to do with it. Either Ryan Perriloux is a misfit who can't stay out of trouble, or he's really freaking good at being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"a team meeting" is singular. He missed team meetings. Plural. He wasn't suspended indefinitely for missing just ONE meeting and you know this. I know his dad died, but you know damn well that the coaches would have been understanding with him if it was just over his dad's death. No, RP obviously thinks he's more important than everyone else and they won't bench him. And you know what? He's right.
