Oct. 3, 1931 -- LSU 35, Springhill 0
First Night Game -- Can't have 75 years of night games without the first one.

Oct. 25, 1958 -- LSU 10, Florida 7
Game that moved LSU to No. 1 in the poll during the national championship year.

Oct. 31, 1959 -- LSU 7, Ole Miss 3
Billy Cannon’s 89-yard punt return for a touchdown, goal line stand, humid, foggy weather -- need we say more.

Sept. 17, 1966 -- LSU 28, South Carolina 12
Paul Dietzel returns in a highly anticipated home opener in Tiger Stadium, but this time he's the South Carolina head coach.

Nov. 8, 1969 -- LSU 20, Alabama 15
Head coach Charles McClendon finally beats Alabama’s Bear Bryant. It would be LSU’s last win against Alabama in Tiger Stadium until 2000.

Dec. 5, 1970 -- LSU 61, Ole Miss 17
Broadcast by ABC the, “Archie Who,” game capped an undefeated season for the Tigers in the SEC play as they secured the conference title with the victory. Ole Miss QB Archie Manning was chased and tackled by the LSU defense all night.

Nov. 20, 1971 -- LSU 28, Notre Dame 8
No. 7 Notre Dame falls to No. 14 LSU in another late season ABC night game as Tigers get revenge for 3-0 loss at Notre dame the year before.

Nov. 4, 1972 -- LSU 17, Ole Miss 16
The nation listens in on the radio as QB Bert Jones rallies No. 6 LSU back in the final seconds. Managing to get off two plays off in four seconds, Jones finds RB Brad Davis in the corner of the end zone with the horn blaring on the stadium scoreboard to end the game.

Sept. 11, 1976 -- LSU 6, Nebraska 6
Tigers tie the No. 1 power of the period, Nebraska.

Sept. 29, 1979 -- USC 17, LSU 12

Nov. 10, 1979 -- Alabama 3, LSU 0
Athletic director Paul Dietzel refused to move the game to the afternoon so that Charles McClendon could face Bear Bryant one final time at night. Driving rain charged up crowd and nearly helps LSU to an upset of No. 1 Crimson Tide.

Nov. 20, 1982 -- LSU 55, Florida State 21
The Oranges flew, the fog rolled in and LSU dominated the seventh-ranked Seminoles in another not moved for TV game. The victory sent LSU on to the Orange Bowl.

Oct. 8, 1988 -- LSU 7, Auburn 6

Sept. 29, 1990 -- LSU 17, Texas A&M 8
Todd Kinchen put on a one-man show, scoring on a zig-zagging 79-yard touchdown reception, and returning a punt 60 yards to set up a touchdown to beat Texas A&M.

Oct. 11, 1997 -- LSU 28, Florida 21
The lights are on for a match-up with No. 1 Florida. A highlight of the Dinardo era, an aggressive defensive plan has the Gators off balance all night.

Sept. 30, 2000 -- LSU 38, Tennessee 31 (OT)
The Saban era really began on this night. LSU plays its first overtime in Tiger Stadium as the student section literally rings the boundary of the North end zone as Tennessee fails to match LSU's overtime TD that prompted a wild on-field celebration by fans and players.

Dec. 1, 2001 -- LSU 27, Auburn 14
The game, originally scheduled for Sept. 15, was moved to Dec. 1 following the tragic events of Sept. 11. Behind an impressive offensive attack LSU rolled to victory, clinching the SEC West and earning the school’s first ever trip to the SEC Championship game.

Oct. 22, 2005 -- LSU 20, Auburn 17 (OT)

Great post Geaux! I think what a lot of people outside of Louisiana do not understand is that LSU Football is almost synonomous with Saturday Nights in the fall. I think LSU Football gets more support from the entire state just due to the fact that there are no other big football schools in the state. When you look at Florida, for instance, there are the 3 powerhouses in Florida State, Miami and the University of Florida. In Alabama, there is Auburn and Alabama. But in Louisiana LSU Football is king. Literally everyone I know in virtually every age group that lives in Louisiana watches LSU's night games. My friend and his dad watch every game together and neither of them went to or will go to LSU. If you didn't know that you would swear they were heart and soul LSU alumni. I don't think you can find that many other places. It's just incredible the support that LSU gets. The night games are as much Louisiana tradition as LSU tradition.

Excellent points!
In Georgia, there are UGA and Georgia Tech.
In South Carolina, there are USC and Clemson.
In Tennessee, there are the Vols and Vandy and Memphis.
In Kentucky, there are the Wildcats and Louisville.
In Mississippi, there are Ole Miss and Miss State.
And, as you pointed out Florida has Miami, the Criminoles, and Miami; and Alabama has The Barn and the Bammers.
In Arkansas, I guess there is just Arkansas; like LSU in Louisiana.

I have to add one to your list....regardless of outcome, you have to admit it was a helluva game....
September 26, 2005 Tennessee 30, LSU 27
Gerald Riggs Jr. pushed into the end zone from a yard out in overtime to give the 10th-ranked Volunteers a 30-27 comeback win Monday night in the Tigers' long-awaited, hurricane-delayed home opener.

I guess Bama likes night games at Tiger Stadium too! Didn't realize we had so much history in Baton Rouge other than winning a lot there. RTR!

There were times when it seemed like ya'll won more in Tiger Stadium and we won more in B-D (or B'Ham). But you have by far won more games over here than we have won over there. Great series with lots of good historical moments.

Alabama

Seems like I've been at ALL those home losses.

1988, my freshman year, was probably the worst. We missed a last second field goal and lost by 1. The cajuns stayed on campus until the next Wednesday. I'm not kidding. I think campus security finally made them move on. Three days later and they were still screaming at us as we walked to class.

You guys ended our 29 game winning streak in 1993 in BDS. (Actually glad I missed that one.)

Saw the future NC's absolutely destroy the Tide 27-3 in 2003 (a 4-7 season).

Had my heart broke last year in overtime.

Good stuff though. I love to see the two team's colors hitting each other on a crisp fall evening. The Crimson and White, Purple and Gold...it's a good series, no doubt.
