Default next year....
I was looking at our roster and we are only losing 11 scholarship seniors after this year. we already have 18 commits and are looking at more. my question is if we sign 20-21 kids, where those 10 spots are gonna open up? what do some of you guys think? its not like we have a ton of juniors that might leave early either..

here are the 11 we lose..

1. Joe Cox
2. Mike Moore
3. Vince Vance
4. Geno Atkins
5. Jeff Owens
6. Kade Weston
7. Brandon Wheeling
8. Darius Dewberry
9. Marcus Washington
10. Bryan Evans
11. Prince Miller

here are a few possibilities i think..

1. Zach Renner- he was rewarded a 1 year scholarship by richt for this season so there is no promise he gets it again next year

2. Reshad Jones- NFL
3. Trinton Sturnivant- medical. 2 torn ACLs
4. Quintin Banks- Constant knee trouble
5. Kevin Perez- just a hunch

Have you lost any to attrition like grades, off-the-field trouble, transfers or career ending eye gouges?

I'm pretty sure you can count back 2 years on scholarships lost due to attrition so the numbers almost always can be made to work out. I wouldn't sweat it...not to mention, not all of those you sign to LOI are going to qualify and will have to be placed or are low-star players destined to just be depth/special teams guys who you may be able to ask to greyshirt.

The grey shirts and guys that dont qualify are possibilities i guess but UGA has done a good job the last couple years on not signing guys that dont qualify. i think every signee the last 2 years has qualified.

I think we should be pretty good on players. Its going to take a big set of shoes to replace Owens and Atkins but we have some good recruits coming in.
My biggest worry is defensive coordinator. We have talent on the defensive side we just don't have discipline or accountability. Without a good change in coordinators we will be screwed no matter who we get recruit wise or who we lose.

I also would like to see Bobo go back to coaching the QB's for awhile and bring in a really good offensive coordinator for him to learn under for awhile. He isn't bad but I feel he was thrust into the OC job before he was really ready.

Im not saying anything you said is right or wrong, but what does any of that have to do with the thread?

Basically I'm saying that we have alot of talent that should be able to step up and play better than they do if they are coached right. I have checked our recruiting file on Rivals and it looks good. I just don't see anyone other than Atkins or Owens that we will lose that will affect us that much, IMO.

As far as actual individual players I have read alot and don't really see any stand out Jrs that would benefit from leaving early. We are a pretty yound team and if Murray starts next year and we don't try and make Logan the starter for one year like we did Cox I feel that we should be OK offensively. Is Curran a JR or Sophmore?

Curran is a junior. i think you might have misunderstood the point of my thread. i dont think talent is the problem. i dont think we are hurting for players either. i only brought up what we are losing because of the NCAA's limit of 85 scholarship players. as it stands now, we would be over the limit and that would cause major issues. i was just curious to know hoe everyone thought the needed attrition would come from.

Understood. I think Sturdivant should just quit. I hate to say that, but he needs to be able to walk and I don't know if he can come back from another injury. Also we can get someone at his position and not have to shuffle the line around if he goes down again. Also weeding out the underacheivers and problems could open up a few more. Truthfully I'm not educated on the process enough to answer this so I will see what ya'll come up with.

well it came out today where at least one more spot is opening up...

Notebook: No A.J. creates questions || OnlineAthens.com
Reserve defensive end Neland Ball is no longer on the team because he is medically disqualified with back and knee injuries, Richt said. The move came early in the season, but Richt revealed it Wednesday when he was asked about the redshirt sophomore's availability. Ball played in five games last season without a tackle.
