Well, that makes it all better.

A surprising amount of media heads have commented on this. (Mike and Mike, Brando, Tillman, Holtz, May etc etc)

Still, we can't completely blame the refs. (even though the ref that threw the bad flags against us is a Georgia Tech graduate) It wasn't as costly as the phantom Sanks fumble against Georgia Tech that a**hole Al Ford called. (Who, by the way, for whatever reason - was reviewing plays for UGA vs. LSU this year)

Seriously though, if Georgia Tech alumni get to be the Head of the Officials in the SEC, and get to assign Georgia Tech graduates as refs in important Georgia games while having a ref who had death threats from Georgia games for blatantly rigging a game. (Phantom Jasper Sanks fumble against Georgia Tech)

It's only fair that I get to Ref Georgia Tech games, and my Dad gets to review the plays.

Well, this hullaballoo should allow UGA to get by with murder in their next games with SEC officiating.

I'm more angry about a Georgia Tech graduate reffing an important game for us, and not only that... but Al F*$%ING Ford reviewing the plays. Biggest joke ever.

I demand to be given permission to ref the WLOCP... I'll be fair Gators I promise.

The real problem lies in the fact that there is even a penalty for this in the first place. They should just get rid of excessive celebration and just have a taunting penalty. If a team is happily celebrating a TD there is no harm in that. If they are using the celebration to demean the other team with hand gestures and things like that then throw the flag. Come on, they are 19 year old happy kids having fun. Nothing wrong with that.

Probably used water torture on this ref to get a confession out of him. Where's Obama and the dems when you need them?

Seriously, I think this ruling will be changed after this season. Tennessee Ted's suggestion is probably the best of both worlds.

I agree, TT. I always like it when the officials go over to a player they believe is celebrating a little extensively and tell them to calm down. Some of these refs are too damn trigger happy to throw a flag and have a big impact on the game when they shouldn't.

Agree wholeheartedly... it's gotten WAY out of hand, and it's actually costing teams games in some cases. I don't think anyone ever intended for this penalty to be so harsh that it had a direct effect on the outcome of games, actual wins and losses... but that's what it's doing just the same.

They're blurring the lines of unsportsmanlike, which used to be what they called for serious infractions (like throat slashing gestures), and simple, trivial celebrating an accomplishment.

It's also taking away from the excitement of the game for players and fans alike.

You guys still allowed Holiday to return the ball 40 something yards and then had a procedural penalty and then let Charles Scott just waltz through the defense for the game winning score. Yeah it was a bad call but that isn't why you lost.

And AGAIN, the farther back you have to punt, the better the odds of a good return. The penalty changes the course of events following the penalty. Do you know what a touch back is? Or a fair catch???
