| Gainesville WR Tai-ler Jones finally gets UGA offer from Mark Richt | AJC College Sports Recruiting Gainesville WR Tai-ler Jones finally gets UGA offer from Mark Richt 4:13 pm March 20, 2009, by Michael Carvell Gainesville wide receiver Tai-ler Jones was one of the state’s most heavily-recruited prospects without an UGA scholarship offer. All that changed after speaking on the telephone with Georgia’s Mark Richt on Friday. UGA is offer No. 31 for Jones. All the teasing that Jones was taking from classmates and local Georgia fans can end. “Coach Richt said they wanted me, and I was like ‘Oh wow’ and I didn’t know what to say back to him,” Jones said. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. It caught me completely off guard.” Was Jones upset that Georgia took longer than other schools to offer? “No, not at all. Everybody wanted me to be mad at Georgia. But I wasn’t. Georgia told me all along that they were taking their time to evaluate prospects to make sure they offered the right guys. I believed what they said, and I’m excited about the offer. That makes me feel great.” Georgia had originally told Jones and his Gainesville teammates, junior quarterback Blake Sims and sophomore linebacker A.J. Johnson, that they would let them know about the scholarship situation on Georgia Junior Day, which is Saturday (March 21). However, the Bulldogs decided to not wait any longer on Jones, with Richt himself making the call on Friday. Jones said Sims and Johnson will find out their situations on Junior Day. Jones has narrowed down to 15 schools. Will UGA now make the list? “I’m pretty sure they will. I haven’t really spent a lot of time with the coaches. I want to go there on Saturday and meet everybody.” | ||

| Dalton DE Jalen Fields may be UGA’s first 2010 commitment | AJC College Sports Recruiting Who will be Georgia’s first 2010 commitment? Dalton defensive end Jalen Fields may take the honor. The 6-foot-5, 245 pound Fields says he is attending Georgia’s Junior Day on Saturday, and there’s a high probability he’ll commit to the Bulldogs. “I think my chances are high,” Fields told the AJC. “I’d like to commit this year, and not next year. So I think my chances of committing to Georgia on Saturday are high. Pretty high.” If so, he would be the first junior to give an early pledge to Georgia. Fields has seven offers, with Tennessee coming on strong. But Georgia is first in his heart because they were the first to offer. “Yes, sir, I’m a hometown fan, I’ve been a Bulldogs fan ever since I was born,” Fields said. “That’s the team I watch on TV, Georgia and Florida State. My high school coach took me to some Tennessee games. But he knows Georgia is my team.” | ||

| I wish Rivals would include a clean max with player profiles. I'd like to know they're explosive and what not. | ||

| Mark Richt gets first commitment for Georgia’s 2010 football recruiting class | Inside College Recruiting: Michael Carvell Mark Richt gets first commitment for Georgia’s 2010 football recruiting class Georgia finally got its first commitment for 2010 when Dalton defensive end Jalen Fields committed to the Bulldogs during UGA’s Junior Day on Saturday. “I told [Mark Richt] and he was hugging me and my family,” Fields told the AJC. “Georgia is the place I want to be. I believe in [Richt} and Georgia. Coach Richt has already done so many great things at Georgia. I'm a hometown guy, so there was no need for me to look around anywhere else. Georgia is where I want to be, and it's an honor to be the first [commitment] for next year.” The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Fields picked UGA among seven offers, including Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida State. Had Fields waited longer, he was expected to double or triple his scholarship offers. “I like ‘Coach O’ a lot [Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron], but Georgia was my first offer and my first love,” Fields said. “I’m happy with Georgia, my family is happy with Georgia. That’s where I want to be, and I’m finished with my recruiting. I’m glad to get it over with. Georgia is my dream school. Now I can focus on Dalton football and helping us be the best team we can be.” Fields, who is a junior, had told the AJC on that chances were high that he would give the Bulldogs an early pledge, and Fields delivered on his word on Saturday. “It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog. It doesn’t get any better than this.” The first commitment for Georgia Tech’s 2010 recruiting class was Collins Hill tailback Charles Perkins. | ||

| UGA makes up ground quickly with Gainesville WR Tai-ler Jones | AJC College Sports Recruiting UGA makes up ground quickly with Gainesville WR Tai-ler Jones Georgia’s scholarship offer to Gainesville wide receiver Tai-ler Jones has performed instant wonders for the Bulldogs and their chances of landing the top 2010 prospect. UGA made the final list of seven schools on Monday with Jones, who is also considering Notre Dame (his father’s alma mater), Ohio State, North Carolina, UCLA, California, and Stanford. Jones has also pushed up his decision date, saying he could make his college choice within the next couple of months. Jones is one of the nation’s leaders in early offers with 31, including Clemson, Georgia Tech, and South Carolina. Georgia Tech did not make Jones’ first cut of 15 schools because he did not feel like his skills were a match for the team’s offense. A few days ago, Jones did not have an UGA offer and said he was going to attend track practice rather than Georgia’s Junior Day on Saturday. However, UGA coach Mark Richt called on Friday with an offer, and Jones quickly changed his plans to visit Athens. Gainesville High is the alma mater of UGA athletics director Damon Evans, who also played football at Georgia. | ||

| Valued left tackle JaWuan James considers Bulldogs - Sports Valued left tackle JaWuan James considers Bulldogs NICK PARKER Issue date: 4/2/09 Section: Sports College coaches annually scour the country in search of left tackle prospects to help protect the quarterback's blind side. So it comes as no surprise that offers have poured in for JaWuan James, a 6-foot-7-inch 290-pound stud left tackle recruit from North Gwinnett High School. "I am up to 32 offers," James said. "UGA, Alabama, Florida, Oregon, South Carolina, Clemson, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Miami, schools like that." Despite James' insistence that distance won't be a factor in his decision, the Bulldogs appear in prime position to land his signature next February. "I like Georgia a lot. It's a great program, and they have a lot of offensive linemen that come out of there, and it's the home-state school," James said. James' relationship with offensive line coach Stacy Searles is also working heavily in Georgia's favor. "He's a great guy, and from talking to him since last year, it's been great getting to know him," James said. "It seems like I've gotten to know him and the rest of the coaching staff very well. He seems like a great coach and a great person." Throughout the process, James has gotten to know another Georgia coach very well, too - head coach Mark Richt. "He's a really nice guy, and he has a lot of morals and values that my family likes and wants for me," James said. "And from sitting down with him and talking to him and meeting him several times, it seems like the conversations just get better and better and more personal and more regular and not scripted. It's not just about how they want me to come there, it's just laid back, and we just talk." James claims no conference preference or leader and says he wants to take all of his official visits before coming to a decision. In the meantime, he will be going on a whirlwind of unofficial visits. "I'm going up to Alabama's A-Day, then I'm going up to Tennessee this weekend and then Florida during the week because it's my spring break this week," James said. | ||
