WR Cameron Kenney waiting on decision of UGA QB Matthew Stafford
By Michael Carvell | Thursday, December 25, 2008, 11:38 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Will wide receiver Cameron Kenney switch his commitment from Auburn to Georgia?
Kenney, the wide receiver from Dacula who plays at Garden City (Kan.) Junior College, said he is waiting to hear what UGA quarterback Matthew Stafford will do.
Kenney admitted that Stafford’s decision will influence his decision.
“[Stafford] is going to be a top NFL pick, whether he leaves this year or next year,” Kenney said. “If he stays, what wide receiver in the country wouldn’t want to play with an NFL quarterback? Even if it’s just for one season, that’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”
The 6-2, 200-pound Kenney committed to Auburn but is looking at other schools since the coaching change. Over the holidays, Kenney said he plans to schedule January visits to Auburn, Georgia, Kansas State, South Florida and South Carolina.
Stafford has until Jan. 15 to declare for the NFL draft.
I watched an interview on the local news with Aaron Murray about his injury earlier this year and his high school team. The kid was completely repping UGA the whole interview with Georgia shirts, hats, and he was even rehabing in UGA shorts. This kid is proud to be picked up by us. I really hope he lives up to his potential.
If Stafford comes back maybe they can start giving Murray some play time during the season and get him ready to go when his time comes.

Jarvis Jones to provide “drama” on signing day
By Michael Carvell | Saturday, December 27, 2008, 04:17 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
No one in the state will draw more attention on signing day than Jarvis Jones of Carver-Columbus, the super-sized linebacker. He is ranked as the state’s No. 2 prospect by the AJC and is considered to be the rare type of player who can make an instant impact on a college team’s fortunes.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Jones has narrowed his choices to Florida, LSU, Georgia, USC and Texas. Even the colleges recruiting Jones are saving the majority of in-home visits for January. Jones said he will announce a college decision on Feb. 4.
“Jarvis is taking everything in stride, and he’s not going to be forced into doing anything until he’s ready,” Carver coach Dell McGee said. “There will definitely be some drama involved with his decision. The colleges won’t even know where he’s going until signing day

USC and Texas seem like interests just as like, I don't know, his "if I want to go to a different part of the country" choices. I would bet the 3 he's most serious about are LSU UF and UGA. Given UGA's superb pedigree of defensive players sent to the NFL, I like our chances with the kid.
See? That's how recruiting board writers do it! Lol, but seriously I hope we get this guy.
Recruiting soap operas? Ridgeland WR says UGA is “true love”
By Michael Carvell | Monday, December 29, 2008, 11:01 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Will Ridgeland WR Michael Bowman’s true love come calling? He has said it’s his dream to play for Georgia. But when the Bulldogs didn’t offer by the start of the summer, he committed to Alabama.
Georgia recently stopped by Bowman’s school to see if he was still interested. He said he was willing to listen.
If Georgia fails to land its No. 1 target at wide receiver, Marlon Brown of Memphis, the Bulldogs could make a last-minute rush at Bowman. Will Bowman go with his heart? “We’ll just have to see how things play out,” he said.
S.C. DL Geathers has UGA among four finalists
By Michael Carvell | Sunday, December 28, 2008, 11:13 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Defensive lineman Kwame Geathers of Carvers Bay, S.C., announced that UGA is one of his four finalists, according to GoGamecocks.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Geathers said he will make official visits to South Carolina, UGA, South Florida and North Carolina in January.
What are UGA’s chances of signing Geathers? UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner is a close friend of his family, and older brother Robert Geathers played at UGA.
However, another one of his brothers, Clifton Geathers, committed to UGA but later signed with South Carolina, where he is a current member of the Gamecocks.
State’s No. 1 prospect gets advice from Champ Bailey
By Michael Carvell | Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 11:00 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
What do people tell Branden Smith, who is ranked as the state’s No. 1 prospect by the AJC, to dissuade him from considering UGA?
The Booker T. Washington standout says people tell him that his three other finalists - Alabama, Florida, and Florida State - do a better job of placing defensive backs in the NFL.
Smith said he has heard so many things that he is not quite sure what to believe. Therefore, when he had the chance recently to speak with Denver Broncos All-Pro defensive back Champ Bailey, they talked about the subject.
“Champ said ‘Don’t worry about that stuff. It doesn’t matter which college you play for … if you’re good enough, the NFL will find you,’” Smith said.
UGA told Smith he can be “another Champ Bailey” and play both ways for the Bulldogs. Bailey starred at UGA and is a member of the Broncos with Smith’s older brother, backup quarterback Darrell Hackney.
Smith claims to have no favorites and will announce his college decision on Sunday night
not sure about florida, bama and florida state placing more DBs in the NFL in then UGA. i dont know all those schools have in the NFL right now but uga has..
tim jennings- starter
jermaine phillips- starter
sean jones-starter
thomas davis is a starter at LB even tho he was a safety at uga
paul oliver- chargers...had a pick this weekend actually
tre battle - had career high 7 tackles this weekend vs the eagles
demario minter- cardinals
greg blue- 5th round draft pick in 06
thats 8 DBs off the top of my head that uga has put in the NFL recently. maybe that does rank lower then those other schools but it cant be by much.
BTW i didnt count champ because i was counting the guys that the current staff coached.
I'm sure Florida State likes to throw Deion Sanders name out there. They've got Myron Rolle now too. Still, UGA has a good list of DB's we've sent to the NFL too.
I think Jarvis goes elsewhere just because I havent really read anything about him being really excited about the Dawgs. I think the kid leaves the state to LSU or UF.
Let all the Bulldog faithfull rally behind the men who now wear the RED AND BLACK with two words. Two simple words that express the sentiments of the entire Bulldog Nation........GO DAWGS!! -Larry Munson
