Default Florida's Missing Something?
Much was made when we hired Dan Mullen that Florida wouldn't really miss a beat without him, because it was Urban Meyer's offense. After last week's "struggle" against Tennessee, I heard Lee Corso mention this morning heading into the game with Kentucky that Florida seemed to be struggling with high expectations and really missing Dan Mullen.

That part struck me, because I didn't think about it. Is Corso right? Does this Gators squad really miss Dan Mullen up there in the box? Curious as to the opinion of some Gator fans.

I don't think they're necessarily missing him. I think it's more of them missing Percy Harvin and trying to find that guy who is going to step in and make up the yards he got every game last year. Florida is fine. Don't read too much into last weeks game. Tennessee has a damn good defense, and I'm sure they've had that game circled on their schedule since last years beat down. Right now there's only one team I can see threating Florida in the entire nation, unfortunately for Florida it's a team in their own conference, Alabama. If the gators can get by Bama in Atlanta, they'll cruise through the National Championship game, no matter who they play.

Anytime you have a change at a position as major as Offensive Coordinator, you're going to have to adjust some. But, I think Corso may be missing something that's pretty common knowledge. At Florida, every member of the offensive staff gets together and designs the plays and drafts what will be called in a game. Mullen no more called whatever he wanted off the cuff than Addazio is doing now... they both worked off a script that was contributed to by everybody on offense. Meyer has said that numerous times in the news, as has Mullen at various times while he was at UF.

Now, if the OC sees that something isn't working, or sees something he wants to take advantage of, I'm sure he has the ability to change the given play; but again, Meyer is right there if he wants to veto that plan. And, I'm sure they all get together at the half to discuss what is and isn't working, and make adjustments... but they do it as a team, with Meyer, Addazio, Gonzales, Carter, Loeffler, etc..

As for the UT game, Meyer said the coaches called a great game. He said he might have opened it up more; but then again, he might not have, because the rushing game was working fine, the outcome was never in doubt, and UT didn't appear to be trying to storm back. He said they're paid to win games, and they won one.

We're not missing Dan Mullen. Unjustified or not, most people around here still put most of the blame for us losing to Ole Miss on him.

What we are missing, in the Tennessee game, and perhaps today as well, is some of our best players, either due to the flu or injuries. The reasons for our less-than-stellar performance are no mystery. Just look at any report Meyer has released this last week on the status of our players.

I think DT is primed to be the man; but again, he was out with a hammy last week. Hope he can go today.
