Anytime you have a change at a position as major as Offensive Coordinator, you're going to have to adjust some. But, I think Corso may be missing something that's pretty common knowledge. At Florida, every member of the offensive staff gets together and designs the plays and drafts what will be called in a game. Mullen no more called whatever he wanted off the cuff than Addazio is doing now... they both worked off a script that was contributed to by everybody on offense. Meyer has said that numerous times in the news, as has Mullen at various times while he was at UF.
Now, if the OC sees that something isn't working, or sees something he wants to take advantage of, I'm sure he has the ability to change the given play; but again, Meyer is right there if he wants to veto that plan. And, I'm sure they all get together at the half to discuss what is and isn't working, and make adjustments... but they do it as a team, with Meyer, Addazio, Gonzales, Carter, Loeffler, etc..
As for the UT game, Meyer said the coaches called a great game. He said he might have opened it up more; but then again, he might not have, because the rushing game was working fine, the outcome was never in doubt, and UT didn't appear to be trying to storm back. He said they're paid to win games, and they won one. |
