Default Tebow nursing sore back
GAINESVILLE, Fla. | While the Florida Gators became the most unanimous preseason No. 1 in history, Tim Tebow was nursing a sore back.

The Florida quarterback sat out contact drills all week and has experienced back tightness.

The Heisman Trophy winner is “100 percent” and will participate in full practices next week, Coach Urban Meyer said.

Tebow’s health is crucial if the Gators plan to fulfill the otherworldly hype that follows them this season. The Gators took 58 of the possible 60 first-place votes in this week’s Associated Press preseason poll, the most dominant margin in college football history.

Meyer said Tebow was held out of live situations against the defense mostly to get backup John Brantley reps, but Tebow’s back was “a little sore.”

“There is no disc issue, and (Tebow) will be full speed Monday,” Meyer said.

Tebow has compiled more than 8,400 total offensive yards and 110 touchdowns in three years with the Gators, who are vying for a third national title in four years.

Tebow said earlier in fall camp that injuries will not derail his hopes for another title.

“I’ve only got 14 games to play, so it’ll take a lot to get me off the field,” Tebow said.
Show class, have pride and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself.

I don't know which is more stupid... practicing Tebow or Julio.

Tebow says his back is fine

Tim Tebow lives under a microscope now, and everything he does, or doesn’t do, earns a headline.

Such was the case this past weekend.

When Urban Meyer announced Saturday that Tebow had been held out of a scrimmage to rest a sore lower back, it quickly became national news.

On Monday, after being full-go at practice, Tebow said he didn’t understand why his back became such a big deal.

“The first thing is mom and dad, ‘Is everything OK?’ ‘Mom, I’m fine,’ “ Tebow said. “Everything is good. I think it’s funny. I think more than anything it makes people worry, friends of the family say, ‘Is he OK?’ He’s OK.”

Tebow said he likely would have been held out of contact work on Saturday regardless.

“If I was dying, I don’t think I would have been doing any more than I did,” Tebow said. “Coach (Meyer) generally doesn’t like me going in all situations, just like he doesn’t like (Brandon) Spikes doing it. I wouldn’t have gone any way.”

Tebow said his back is fine, even though he does continue to get treatment.

When asked how he aggravated it last week, Tebow said, “Probably overwork, like I do everything. It’s that time when you have to ease up and get ready for the season.”

Tebow said he was running around and head-butting teammates at practice Monday, so his back is fine.
