The Zookster used Florida's success this season to help himself with recruiting. Can't blame him, most of the players on the 2006 SEC and National Championship team were signed by the Zooker. What he didn't tell recruits was, he put the Gators in a "depth" situation similar to a team on probation. I'm not knocking the Bama fans, but the Gators have been playing with the same roster numbers that the Tide has the past 3-4 years...and the Tide could use the excuse..."we're on probation". Thanks to Ron Zook's lack of football knowledge related to recruiting "depth"...when Meyer stepped onto the campus...we had 4 scholarship WR...2 scholarship RB...3 scholarship LBs...15 OL....12 DL....after Meyer signed his first class in Feb. of 2005...18 total players...the Gators had 66 scholarship football players...you can have 85. The past 2 years, the Gators have signed 26 and 27 for a total of 53. However, we still only have 78 scholarship players. 7 fewer than most Div. 1 programs. This season, we only have 10 SRs...so, technically, you take the 7 needed to make 85...add 10 seniors leaving...and next season, the Gators can only take 17 players. I'm sure we'll lose a couple to attrition...leaving early for the NFL...will probably be able to sign 19-20 next season. Thanks to Meyer, the roster is full of the most talented players in the Nation. The future is bright for Gators.
I can't wait to see these guys in action. The whole team will be on the same page and clicking with Meyer's offense. Nobody will be learning a brand new offense while playing, like Leak had to. I anticipate a few more blowouts this year, especially with most of our tough games taking place in the Swamp.

The Gators have everything they need to do well in '07. A returning, experienced and athletic OL...tons of WR, and some experienced DL. Remember, Lawrence Marsh was expected to take Moss' position if he hadn't broken his hand. With Atkins likely back on the team, Joyner returning, Hornsby, Rickerson and newbies Jeremy Finch and Major Wright...the DB should be OK. LB will be OK as well, Doe, Spikes, A.J. Jones. The DL ought to be reloaded...there's just too many great players for them not to be good.
The question is, RB...Manson is said to be really hittin' it hard...he's a homerun threat everytime he touches the ball....Mon Williams, Moore and Newbies Bo Williams and Chris Rainey will also likely get into the mix.
Tebow will make some awesome plays, but he'll likely make some sophmore mistakes as well...it's gonna happen and I know we Gators expect it. He's a special player, so, I have faith that he'll do fine. Remember, Leak didn't exactly burn the scoreboard up this past season either...but our defense was stingy enough that it didn't matter. This year, with all the newbies on defense, we're likely gonna have to score more to win games. But you never know, Coach Mattison and Strong coached these guys into a great defense...the same players were never as good with the former coaching staff. Give Mattison and Strong a bunch of talented replacements...which is what Meyer has done, and our defense should be tough enough. Can't wait for the Spring Game!!!!
Zook could bring 'em in, but apparently he couldn't coach 'em up enough to lose less than 5 games/year.
IU will win many more games than they have been of late, but I don't think Zook will win big. Then again, maybe there's more room for error in the Big X than the SEC.
why did meyer only sign 18 his first class if yall were so far behind, you would think he would sign at least the total he could bring in of 25 maybe more; andwhy are you mad at zook anyway the majority of the team he recruited just won you a NC you should be thankful for his part of gator history not bash him.

Meyer only signed 18 because he had less than a month to recruit. His logic was, why sign guys that you don't want just to take up space...why not roll some schollies over to the next year and get early enrollees...which is exactly what he done.
Not bashing Zook...he did bring in some great players...but he gets too much credit. He brought the players in, but couldn't coach wortha flip and we ave. 5 losses a year. What good is having players if you can't coach 'em up? If it took Zook for us to get Meyer...I'm happy we had him!!!!
