Default Washing detergent ad
Am I the only one who gets this ad that seems to take up half the screen? It's rather annoying.

Honestly, it isn't a problem on our end. The ad company is not supposed to run pop-ups on this site.. and as far as I can tell, they have been eliminated. If you are still getting pop-ups, please update this thread:

Pop-ups
Maybe not.

Yes, Benny, they are still appearing. That mud-slinging ad came up several times yesterday. It is a big problem for the site because it annoys people so much that they will abandon the site and go somewhere else. Fixing this problem should become a priority.

Okay, if you see another pop-up of any kind, just denote it in that thread. We'll keep doing our best to inform the company that runs them to get rid of them.. but really nothing we can do directly..

Sorry for the inconvenience.

BTW, I use Opera (browser) and I haven't ever gotten a single pop-up on this site or any other site for that matter. Try that.
Maybe not.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Please note that I have been in correspondence with our ad company each time that the pop-up issue has become a hot topic. Thus, this is the 3rd time they have heard from me (end of August, mid-September, earlier this week and several emails each time describing things). While I can see the appearance of "nothing has been done" this is not an accurate statement. Pop-ups/pop-unders are completely different than the detergent/mud ad. Pop-ups come up as a separate browser window either over your current window or "under" it as another browser window that we many times do not notice until later. These ads have been off the site for several weeks. As for the mud ad, that is either a in-vue (old name, not sure if still called that) or some kind of expansion ad (not sure of official name here either). The reason these have not been removed is simple; the lingo used at the ad company is not what we use. These are not pop-ups, despite our descriptions as such, thus they have not been removed.

You will notice AdSense ads at the top of the forums landing page. AdSense typically pays considerably lower than the targeted display ads - 25% to 50% of the total. We are currently working with the ad company to "fix" the invasive and annoying ads while at the same time testing AdSense to see if it will at least help us break even each month. While nobody expects to get rich off of this site (and trust me, we are not), we also are not in the business of losing money.

Trust me when I say this - we are trying. We ARE looking to keep everyone happy so the site will continue to grow and we DO care about these topics. I may not be on here a lot, but I will always be straight-forward with you all.
