The 4* CB just picked UF at an announcement at his high school in Cali.

ESPNU 150 cornerback Joshua Shaw (Palmdale, Calif.) selected Florida Tuesday during a 10:00 AM PST school press conference, ESPN's Greg Biggins reports. Shaw picked the Gators over USC, Ohio State and LSU.

"That was an eye opening trip for me," Shaw said of his official visit to Gainesville, Fla. in September. "I loved the coaching staff and specifically Coach (Urban) Meyer. He was the only head coach who personally recruited me and that made a big difference."

ESPN's Billy Tucker elaborated on Shaw's decision, "Florida continues to stock its already top ranked 2010 recruiting class and show its national recruiting presence. Shaw joins arguably the most impressive defensive backfield class in the country with the likes of Jonathan Dowling (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast), Demar Dorsey (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Boyd Anderson), Jaylen Watkins (Fort Myers, Fla./Cape Coral) and Matt Elam (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) all committed to play for Urban Meyers and the Gators. The group of highly-regarded DB's collectively has a great blend of size, speed and athleticism. Shaw only adds to that collection of talent and may boast the best ball skills out of the unit."

"He has coveted height on the perimeter and excellent hand-eye coordination. While extremely athletic, he can be aggressive and feisty as well when pressing, rerouting and setting the edge on run support; should fit well into defensive coordinator Charlie Strong's scheme in Gainesville. He has very good recovery burst, quickness and man-to-man skills but his range and long stride may also garner a look at safety before its all said and done. Shaw is very natural around the ball in coverage with invaluable scheme versatility that could allow him to see early playing time in a talented Gator defensive backfield."

Other schools including Notre Dame, Miami-FL, Cal, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, Michigan, Washington, Nebraska, Arizona, Oregon State, Washington State, Penn State, Iowa State and Boise State also offered.

The Gators have had several seasons with the SEC/NC on the line. In not one of those seasons have I been more unsure/doubtful about this team this far into the season. I know losing Percy and Murphy was a hit...as was losing Moore and Debose prior to the season. But this team just isn't getting any better...Addazio continues to call games as if he's protecting a lead. This team is good enough to win it all...heck, if the offense was hitting on all cylinders, I don't think we play a close game through 14 games. But Addazio has bred doubt into this team with his lack of insight...you can tell by the look on Tebow's face...he's not excited...he's not jumping around when he makes a big play or when another team mate makes a big play....it's more like "wheww....glad that happened."

Also, I think losing Mullen hurt us more than me or anyone else realized. Mullen's offensive play-calling was questionable at times as well, but he's a great QB coach. Our new QB coach was suppose to be as good or better. However, Tim is holding the ball longer...he missed two deep throws yesterday that were sure TDs...both to Cooper...both overthrown. Tebow's mechanics are also as bad as I've seen in his nearly 4 years at UF. He takes longer to get the ball off than any other time in his career. For the first time in Tebow's tenure...he looks tentative. I don't know what's going on.

Moving the OL around was effective vs UGA...however, our smart OL coach...who's also our OC, moved everyone back for the Vandy game and Tebow got chased around all night. Last night vs USC, the OL scheme used against UGA was once more in place and Tebow was only sacked twice, and both times was his fault for holding onto the ball so long.

Am I wrong to have doubts about this team?? Have they improved? The defense is nasty...there's no doubts there....as good as USC looked offensively in the first half, they didn't even have 80 yds in the second. The defense is gonna be there...if the offense could get their shiat together...we would be unbeatable. But through the first 10 games, it doesn't seem to be happening. I just get a feeling that I'm going to look back at this season as "a season that could've been".

Am I being a "negative nellie"?? Should I just accept that this is how we're gonna play and as long as we keep winning I should enjoy it??

DISCLAIMER: It's a shame I have to do this on our own board, but this thread is for serious discussion, no BS, please.

The Gospel on Offense - The Faith of Tim Tebow by Mark Earley

The Gospel on Offense - The Faith of Tim Tebow by Mark Earley

America 's largest church has a capacity to hold 16,000. But while Tim
Tebow may not be a preacher, when he runs into the University of Florida
's football Stadium-affectionately known as "The Swamp" -his
congregation numbers just over 90,000. And you can bet they're hearing
Tim's message..

It's not just that this University of Florida quarterback wears Bible
verses etched into his "eye-black" on game days.. Tim Tebow has been
making headlines for more than simply his Heisman Trophy win as a
sophomore and his two national championships. This summer the New York
Times, GQ, and Sports Illustrated, all covered the quarterback's strong
Christian faith.

Last year, when the Florida Gators won the national championship, the
pre-game show followed Tim into a local Florida prison where he can
regularly be found sharing his testimony and preaching the Gospel.

And this top-notch athlete, who spends his spring breaks and summers
ministering to orphans in the Philippines has actually helped change the
culture of the University of Florida . According to Sports Illustrated
, "Since Tebow's arrival on campus, and in large part because of him,
the University has launched a series of community-service initiatives."
Even coach Urban Meyer has taken his family on a "Tebow-inspired mission
trip to the Dominican Republic ."

The press seems to be fascinated with outspoken Christian quarterbacks
like Tim Tebow; Sam Bradford, the 2008 Heisman winner; and now USC's
Matt Barkley. Only a few decades ago, it would have been taken for
granted that these would be the kinds of fellows any father would want
his daughter to marry. Now they are put under the microscope as some
kind of curious anomaly-well-known athletes who actually exhibit character.

In our doped-up, mug-shot celebrity culture, sadly these young men do
look a little out of step. And that's to our culture's shame.
Perhaps that is why last year when the press asked Tim Tebow a rather
impertinent question-they were more embarrassed by the response than he was.

It was at a Southeastern Conference news media event where one reporter
asked in front of the crowded room, "Are you a virgin?" Tim answered
with an unequivocal yes and had yet another platform to explain how his
faith impacts every area of his life.

That platform for sharing the Gospel is exactly what Tim's parents
prayed for before he was born. Tim's father, Bob, a missionary in the
Philippines, had been weeping over the millions of babies aborted in
America . It was then that he prayed, "God, if you give me a son, if
you give me Timmy, I'll raise him to be a preacher."

Soon after, when Pam Tebow learned she was expecting, the parents' faith
was put to the test. After a series of grave complications, doctors
encouraged them to abort the child. They refused. Born small and weak,
Timmy struggled from the beginning. But his dad continued to tell him,
"God's got a purpose for you, and at some point, He's going to call you
to preach."

Dad was right. God's message would come through the roar of the crowd,
beamed to millions via satellite. But little did they know, Tim would
don a jersey, not robes, and use a stadium for his pulpit.

Tim's a great example of an opportunity every believer has-to put our
faith to work on the field of play where God has gifted us and called us.

--Chicago Tribune columnist Rick Morrissey showed up at practice carrying an old copy of his sports section and a jar of salsa. Apparently on draft night 2007, he wrote that if Joakim Noah becomes a useful player within three years, he’ll eat his column with salsa.

Well, Noah had 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks in Saturday’s win over Charlotte, so Morrissey actually showed up to eat the column. I didn’t see it happen, but the stunt was videotaped and I’m sure the two-year old newsprint was delicious.

He got himself fined for 2 reasons, IMO.

1. To show that he's got his teams back.

2. Get the media's attention off of the players and put it on himself.

Those are the reasons why he got himself fined, IMO. Brandon Spikes and the team has taken a lot of heat in the media from hypocrites like Mike Golic.

He is defending his team and he's got their back. If it takes getting fined 30k to let them know that, then so be it.

This taken from GatorBait:

Let me first say I'm not a homer for Florida football or coach Urban Meyer and my job is to be objective at all times which means I don't care if Florida wins, loses or draws.

But the decision to fine Meyer for his "public criticism" of officials is absolutely preposterous and exemplifies what a heavy-handed conference office can become - unruly and out of touch.

Public criticism? Meyer said the refs missed a call, which they did. There's no question about it. Coaches watch what they say with extreme caution anyway when talking to the media and now it will only get worse.

Fining Meyer $30,000 is a disgrace when Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and others have said far more controversial things. When a coach publicly points out that a ref missed a call it's not criticism - it's reality.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino had a legitimate gripe on the "personal foul" call late against his team when they played Florida. If the league office will do nothing, why shouldn't he publicly criticize the officials?

It's outrageous that the people who rake in the millions and millions to the SEC coffers have to pay up to the master when they want to gripe to reporters which has always been a part of sports and the nature of the business.

Officials across the country have missed multiple calls this season from the Tebow hit to the Georgia celebration penalty against LSU to many others that have been documented. The SEC doesn't want anyone to know about them though. They want everyone to shut up, or pay.

Mike Slive missed the boat on this one. I can say it. He can't fine me. Only the guy who's won two national championships and helps keep SEC football in the national spotlight every week. Florida has done wonders for the conference. What has the conference done for it?

Meyer has gone out of his way in the past to publicly praise Slive, who turns around and takes his money. If I were Meyer, those days would be over. In the end, Slive should pay.

The Gators have won 18 games in a row...the longest winning streak we've ever had. We've made it through the 3-game SEC West gauntlet unscathed for the first time in over a decade...we're poised to finish our regular season undefeated and untied for the 2nd time in school history. We are and have been #1 in the polls since this Summer...our offense is coming along, our defense is as good as anyone's...and let's not forget, we've only got Tebow, Spikes, etc...for 6 more games. Our QB is a Heisman contender...the National Championship road goes through Gainesville for the 3rd time in 4 seasons...

We play Vandy on Saturday and I've yet to read a single word...here, or anywhere else, concerning the match-up.

The Gators have had so many distractions...as have Gator fans. After every win there's controversy...whether it's a concussion, a tugged jersey, a bad call...or an eye gouging. We're allowing this crap to take away from what could be another special season for the Gators. I just want to enjoy this season...forget the non-sense. Hopefully, all these distractions won't hurt the team...Vandy plays us tough, usually...no matter how their season is going and that turn-coat, SOS, would love nothing more than to halt our run at another National Championship.

BS aside, it's never been better to be a Florida Gator...

Guess what movie I robbed the title from?

I'll be your huckleberry...

Anyhow...I can truly understand the non-UGA fans perceptions of Spikes...and maybe even of Urban's punishment...or lack thereof. It's embarrassing for the conference...it embarrassed me as a Gator. But any Gator will tell you...in spite of how Brandon "looks"...or what his brother has done, he is a good guy. He does tons of community work in Gainesville and often accompanies Tebow on his weekly treks to Shand's Children's Hosptial. He's a decent guy...he just let his emotions get the best of him on one play. I don't think any Gators on this board agree with what he did...but considering how much shiat he'd taken up to that point, I'm just amazed an all-out brawl didn't occur first. Brandon had a target on his back from the opening KO. He got his eyes raked...and unlike Ealey...his eye was minimally damaged...he actually had to go to the sideline, Ealey kept going. Brandon took several late hits to the back by OL...had his helmet ripped off twice...heck, he even had his hair pulled. Nobody gives a rat's ass about all that, though...

What I find monumentally hilarious is the fact that poodle fans are creating the biggest ruckus...knowing their entire team played as dirty as any team not in garnet and gold that I've watched in many years.

Forget the fact that one of UGA's starters was arrested last week...and started the stinkin' game!!! They're pissed that Spikes isn't being punished more severely...GMAFB!

Honestly...the pups got taken to the woodshed in J-ville...again...and this is the only subject they can post on without holding their heads in shame. I'm not bunching all you UGA fans together...some of you are sensible...but to the few that embarrass your fan base, think about what your coach and team done this past Saturday before throwing stones our way.

GO GATORS!!!

YouTube - Tim Tebow breaks Herschel Walker's rushing College Touchdown Record (50 for Tebow)

In all seriousness, I think this was a fine run by Tebow, TD or no. His evasion of the Georgia defense makes him look like a damn good runner.

Great game for the Gators...defense, offense, special teams...all looked good. Tebow, Spikes, Sturgis,...

Great game for the Gators...defense, offense, special teams...all looked good. Tebow, Spikes, Sturgis, Cooper, Hernandez, Jones...all played well. Still don't know why Moody isn't running the ball more, though. But, only 2 dive plays all night...so, maybe Addazio is listening to the fans a little...;)

On another note...did anybody get the feeling we were playing f$u yesterday? Talk about a bunch of dirty, cheap-shot thugs...I guess this is what Richt and UGA have digressed to. Stupid celebrations don't work...gay uniform changes don't work...heck, just start fights all over the field...maybe some of their key players will get ejected. This is criminole tactics...which, shouldn't be a total shock considering where Richt got his start. BTW, did anyone see the UGA players "celebrating" on the sideline after scoring their first TD? That's sooo funny...embarrassing, but funny.

Remember the punt...James comes up and blocks an UGA player...to allow the ball to go into the endzone and prevent him from downing it...normal play that any PR would do...and the UGA player gets in his face...then, another UGA player hits James in the back...not to mention, Spikes got his eye's gouged, hair pulled, helmet ripped off twice...took countless blind sided hits after the plays were over from OL...heck, Ealey is lucky Spikes didn't have his "9"...:D Tebow got hit late on several occasions...kinda shocked that one that Gary and Verne kept showing didn't get called...the defender stopped when Tebow threw the ball...then took off and clocked him.

All this whining about Spikes little opthamology exam is just a ploy to take the attention off what was likely one of the dirtiest games ever played by a UGA team. The players knew they were about to get their asses handed to them...so, they wanted a fight. But...enough of that...they're sore losers...as some of their fans on the board are...they'll try and trash our players...coaches...in an attempt to relieve some of their pain. The truth is...we own them like luggage. That "overall series" come-back can only go so far...the poodles have lost 85% of the time they've ventured to Jacksonville over the last 2 decades...and things aren't looking any brighter for the future in Athens. Their coaches are in disarray...and Richt has proven that he's good for about 8-9 victories a year...but that's it. Glad our standards are higher in Gainesville.

Congrats to the Gators and Gator fans on this board....17 of 20...that's ownage my friends. And Tebow breaking HW's record with a 20+ yd scamper is icing on the cake.:D
