_Baseball_
Friday night, the Tigers pounced on Tennessee, winning 12-6. Grant Dayton earned to win, to move to 3-1 on the season, and Bryan Woodall earned the save. 3 Tigers, Trent Mummey, Hunter Morris and Joseph Sanders all had 3 hit games, and drove in a combined 6 runs, 3 of which were driven in by Mummey.

Saturday, the Tigers jumped out to a 4 run lead after 4 innings, but faltered late, conceding the game, 8-4 in 11 innings. They play again today, at 2 o'clock.

The Tigers are now 17-10 (3-5) and in second place in the SEC West.

_Football_

Blue defeated White, 30-14 in the A-Day game Saturday, with Burns and Todd continuing to battle for the top QB spot. Both threw touchdown passed to Robert Dunn.

Todd- 18 of 27 for 190, after 3 straight incompletions to start the scrimmage.

Burns- 14 of 21 for 142, and had 37 yards rushing.

Also interesting to note that Caudle was 10 of 18 for 50 yards, with one interception returned by Josh Bynes for a touchdown.

16 different players made catches for the offense. Dunn caught 5 passes for 69 yards, Rod Smith had 5 for 55 yards, and TE Tommy Trott had 55 yards on four catches.

The running back corps was somewhat shallow, though. Mario Fannin did not play due to a shoulder injury, and Lester's only action was an 8 yard reception on the opening drive. Ben Tate had two TD runs, an 8 yard and a 10 yard.

Burns was named the offensive MVP of the game.

_Swimming and Diving_

The men's swimming and diving team finished 5th and the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The men were riding 5 straight national titles, a streak which was broken by Arizona. Ceasar Cielo set new Auburn, NCAA, and US Open records 3 days in a row, in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 200 medley relay races.

_Other Sports_

There was plenty of other Tiger action throughout the week, though.

The No. 14 golf team placed 7th in their competition in The Hootie at Bulls Bay, on Tuesday.

The women are also in 3rd place at the Bryan National Collegiate competition, and will play along side Florida and Duke today, in the concluding round.

The No. 25 tennis team lost their final home, dropping a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Volunteers of Tennessee.

The Lady Tigers dropped their match to Tennessee, by the same score of 4-3.

Softball split a doubleheader with Tennessee, beating the Volunteers 1-0 on a two-hit performance by Brittany Day.

What a pile of horseshit. Not only did 2007 see the BCS hose yet another SEC team in Georgia, but it clearly screwed over #6th Missouri for 13th rank Illinois to keep the heritage intact for Pasadena's Rose Bowl. How can you leave the 6th rank team out of a BCS bowl? Illinois highest ranking this year in the BCS poll was 13th. And that came today. before that they were only rank three other times. 19th,17th and 15th. On the other hand Missouri has been rank 16th, 13th, 9th, 6th, 5th, 4th and 1st before dropping back to 6th today. In other words that were ranked each week in the BCS this season. And some way the BCS finds a way to leave them out. Arizona State and Florida should be pissed as well since Illinois leap frog them at 11th and 12th.
The rose bowl committee as you all remember was the last of the major bowls at agree with the BCS system. But someone is getting rich in this instance. Isn't the BCS suppose to go with the top ten team to decide the BCS bowls or are football fans mislead? I can't tell you how disappointed I am with what has transpired with the BCS selections the year.

What the Bowls should have looked like.

*Rose Bowl*
Ohio State vs Missouri

*Sugar Bowl*
Hawaii vs LSU

*Orange Bowl*
Virginia Tech vs West Virginia

*Fiesta Bowl*
Oklahoma vs Kansas

*BCS Title game*
Southern Cal vs Georgia

This is not as outrageous as what they've done. At least the fans come out the winners with great games.

Tony Soprano, where are you when America needs you most?

Image: http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q15/milrandor/Sigs%20And%20Wallpapers/Sig-UT-5.jpg

After starting the season struggling a bit, having off-field issues with Coker, the injury bug biting right in the crotch, few would have predicted this Volunteer squad would end up in Atlanta come December. I must admit, I was one of the doubters. I did pick us to win the East, pre-season, and for LSU to win the West, but the loss to an Alabama team that I felt could not compete with us talent-wise had me doubting.

None-the-less, here we are, and after LSU loses to Kentucky and to an Arkansas team that gave us little trouble, adding in the fact that the game will be played in a neutral site, I am optimistic. I wouldn't put any money on the game and if you held me down and stuck your butt in my face, I'd be forced to pick the Tigers in this one, but I think we have as good a chance as anyone in the East would at knocking them off.

My one chagrin is that, now that LSU is out of the National Championship picture, we won't have the opportunity to return the favor that was dealt to us in 2002's SEC Championship game when Matt Mauk, and tailback Dominick Davis, both thrust into action due to injuries to starters, ended #2 Tennessee's National Title hopes.

But there still is that SEC Championship trophy on the line, and the Vols seem to play better with their backs against the wall and when the media gives them no chance.

Let the best team win. Geaux Vols.
