Auburn Confirmed: Furr is leaving Auburn
I just read on Rival's that Furr's father has confirmed that his son will sign a letter withdrawing from Auburn tomorrow morning. Here is a quote from him...

"He'll sign his letter of withdrawal (Wednesday) morning," the elder Furr said. "We just want to thank Auburn University for giving DeRon the opportunity to go there and learn to be a student and an athlete.

"We just want to tell Auburn that we thank them very much for that chance."

His did not indicate where his son will go although there is much speculation that he will transfer to FSU to be with his high school friend, Jarmon Fortson. Thus far no one from FSU (or any other school) has contacted him.

Here is what his father had to say on this matter...

"We don't know where, but he'll be looking to finish out his career elsewhere," Furr, Sr. said. "He appreciates the opportunity and wishes Auburn the best. It just didn't work out for him."

I wish him well wherever he ends up. From everything I've heard of him though it sound like the team will be better off that he leaves.

Well, if it benifits the team... see ya!

Seriously, don't have a single thing against the man. Hope he has a good career elsewhere and does something with his talent.

Obviously he wasn't ready to be an Auburn man.

I just got this from someone that I consider a very reliable source, take as you will but I believe it:

Early in practice as the defense was running plays (without an O), Furr stopped his run back to place with about 20 feet to spare. This is a pet peve of Rhoades (who has several pet peves, btw). Rhoades let him and every player on D know it with, if it happens again from any player that the entire D unit would be punished.

When running plays against the O, that were to be stopped by a defender touching them, he was run over by Eric Smith after catching a pass when Furr was in place to make the tackle but wasn't pursuing to finish with a tackle. Smith then stood over the top of Furr and said something. Furr jumped up to defend himself, said something and then turned to walk away. That is when Smith grabbed him by the jersey with a don't walk away from me bro. An altercation broke out, but was nothing but a spitting contest.

Later, Furr again fell short of his place before he started to loaf. This is when several of the starters jumped down his throat. Again a spitting contest at first until Furr apparently said something and was hit in the face by a fist. Furr then tackled Ethridge but was broken up quickly by players and staff. There was no piling on. From what the spectator said what he saw was players trying to stop it, not add to it.

There were rumors, that Furr was unhappy two weeks ago, but no confirmation as to the truth and about what. From what I take of the entire situation is that combined with the fact that he was already unhappy added to a series of unfortunate events that escalated that Furr felt his world was crashing around him. I believe he and the team would have been fine if he felt he could face them over the following couple of days. Yes, there would have been some uncomfortable moments but they would have passed and we would have all called it "male bonding". But Furr, didn't want to be placed in that situation and felt that it was his best time to pack up and go.

The rumor I had heard was that Furr was unhappy because, according to him, TT had promised him an opportunity to play QB, and never came through on that promise. I don't know the truth of that, but it seems he didn't want to play DB in the least.

He played qb during Spring training, and I believe played a bit on A day, but got hurt. Apparently it was obvious, to the coaches, that he was going to be at best the 4th string qb, and wanted to utilize his athleticism in a position that we needed help. He may have even seen some playing time on defense this year (especially now with the injury to Savage).

Maybe he didn't like the change, and felt shorted, but he did get a fair chance at qb in Spring. I hope he can find some place where he has a chance at qb, but it seems that he needs to get his "mind" right. Maybe a change of scenery will do the trick.

Bye Furr. After hearing about what you did in practice I don't care. We can find someone else.

OH i see, he joined in January. Found this quote: “I wanted to play and didn't feel like I would get to as much as I want to,” Furr said. "I just wanted to get on the field faster. This is the quickest way for me to get to the NFL.”
