It's not easy making coaching changes while the season is still ongoing. But here is something we need to take a close look at. When Bobby Petrino 1st arrived in Fayetteville, his first choice on a defensive coordinator was Ellis Johnson which was Mississippi States current DC. Johnson accepted Petrino's offer but backed out of the contract to accept South Carolina's offer as their DC bringing him home to the Cheese Grits state once again.
We then settled of a NFL position coach. South Carolina has flourish in defense for two seasons since bringing Johnson to Columbia while Arkansas has struggled with Willy Robinson (Not a subject which was featured on NBC Dateline's To Catch a Predator).
All that brings me to this point. Is it time to bring a favorite son home? Check out his bio. Impressive numbers. And take note. In the last three games that undefeated Texas Christian University has played, Bumpas defense has allowed only 11 points. With offensive minded BYU being one, beating them 38-7 in Provo Utah.
I hope you're right jacob. I don't have a good feeling about Petrino firing Willy.
I don't really either. I should have been more clear in my post. I DO think there will be changes made, but I don't know what they will be or if they will include getting rid of WR. They could make position coach changes, give John L. Smith some responsibility besides special teams, I just don't know. I'd like to see them go after Bumpas, and he's not available go after a young, firey up and comer, much like Muschamp was a few years ago.
Can you guys imagine how much better the offensive play calling would be if Petrino wasn't babysitting Willy? Hell if a top defensive guy came aboard next year the program would advance leaps and bounds. Being ahead of schedule to be a BCS contender.
1. got to have balance
2. must have a running game to succeed in this league.
3. and the most important (and Petrino is finding out about) defense wins championships in the SEC.
We have two of those three factors.
If we get the right guy running the defense and and add some team depth and we have pulled even with the championship caliber schools.
