That seems like a fairly simple thing to verify, no?
One could also guess that Mallet is more valuable to the team and what Petrino wants to do...
According to the article Battle had prior trouble with the law.Mallet's was a first offense. And the nature of the offense was a public intox which was minor.Maybe Petrino has a 2 strikes and your out policy. No doubt Mallet is crucial to the teams success, but i doubt thats why he wasn't dismissed.
Battle has had other troubles. not just with the law but with teammates...me and some friends have had classes with some players and some say that he starts a lot of crap in the locker room with other players

I heard a rumor he swung on a few guys during practices. Cant verify this though, dont want to crucify the guy just a young guy with his head not on straight yet.
One of the most successful programs in NCAA history, the Arkansas men's track and field teams. The program has won 42 national titles in Cross Country and Track & Field.

That's pretty much what I heard. As for the Mallett comparison, fighting with teammates and getting arrested twice (one a DUI) in less than two months is a good way to get kicked off a football team. Getting a PI is not.
im just going off what some of the guys that i have had classes with have told me who are either on the team or work within the athletic program...but i really think hes got a bad attitude. he did try to pick a fight at the spring game that i did see tho
