GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Clemson safety DeAndre McDaniel will be accepted into a program for first-time offenders to resolve charges of aggravated assault and battery.

Pickens County chief prosecutor Bob Ariail said in a statement Friday that the victim and police officials have agreed to allow McDaniel into a pretrial intervention program. Terms of the deal have not been released.

McDaniel was arrested in June. According to a police incident report, his girlfriend told police he covered her head with a comforter, punched her and pushed her down a flight of stairs.

McDaniel has remained in school and on the football team since his arrest. Clemson coach Tommy Bowden said Friday he will make a recommendation to athletic director Terry Don Phillips next week on McDaniel's team status.

Let's just ignore the Clemson aspect for a moment and focus on the pathetic nature of my state's stance on domestic violence. How is it possible that we're constantly #1 or near the top of the nation in domestic violence? Oh, I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with the fact punching a woman and throwing her down a flight of stairs is expunged from the record as long as you're a good boy for awhile. I've certainly never seen any data suggesting first time offenders of DV are likely to eventually be 2nd time defenders. It makes me sick.

Why did he get PTI??? I thought he was innocent and had three witnesses. what a laugh. If I was innocent, I would never plead guilty, even if it was a slap on the wrist PTI.

Clemson condones domestic violence, academic impropriety, paying players and skirting rules.

How inspirational...

For all of those youngsters out there who dream to play at the collegiate level, while maintaining their criminal lifestyle.....there is hope. Thanks clemson, for giving up and coming criminals/athletes the option to do both!

Did anybody actually expect anything else from the mistake by the lake and the Bowden crew?

One of those "Real American Hero" commercials would be great for this!
