There is no doubt in my mind that even if Gay HAD been healthy, that Bolt would still have won. Bolt is without a doubt the fastest man ever. Anyone who can set a world record while taking the last 20m off is beyond contestation. It was amazing to watch. Showboating aside, what he did was amazing. And I have no doubt he could have run as low as a 9.3 if he really pushed himself. Phenomenal in the harshest sense of the word.

9.3 is a little crazy, and I doubt he could run that. I do think that he could get into the low 9.5's if he really pushed himself, though. Ridiculous to see him win by that much even after slowing up in the last 15 meters or so.

Think about it.... he had enough time to spread his arms, start jogging, and then pound his chest.... Think about if he had a challenge. Someone there to push him, not just to the finishline but harder.

Yeah, but I ran track and 9.3 is a far cry from 9.7, which is essentially what he ran. If you watch the video, there's only a noticeable slow down in speed in the last 5 meters and even at that, he's still flying. I could see him shaving off two tenths by running all the way through, but I don't think he lost 4 tenths with his celebration.

The term "freak of nature' is becoming over used like "beast" when describing outstanding athletes, but I just dont know how else to describe that guy. 6'5" running a 9.69!! I realize that 9.3 sounds crazy but he left a lot out there on the track. If he said that his main goal was just winning the gold. Just think if actually focused on a specific time he wanted to brake like
Phelps and other greats have done.

Sorry, but I won't believe it's possible to run a 9.3 until I see it done. If anyone can do it he can, but that's just an insanely fast time.

You left out that he was 7th coming out of the blocks and ran with one shoe untied. He was truly amazing but almost as amazing were the Jamaican women today. Shelly-Ann Fraser finished with just as big of a lead as Bolt and was followed by the two other Jamaicans tying in a dead heat for silver medals and thus totally shutting out the three American runners from medals.

Michael Johnson had been saying for the last two weeks that he felt his 200 record was going to be safe since nobody, including Bolt, had ever come close to breaking the 12 year old record till Bolt blew right by that today.
