Addison Confirms USC Commitment
By Phil Kornblut
DB Corey Addison (6-1 190) of Jacksonville verified Saturday afternoon that he committed to USC earlier in the day while on an unofficial visit to the school. "I looked at the educational side in business management, and that's one of the best in the nation," Addison said. "They showed me the depth chart and what they have left, and they wanted me to come play for them." Addison said he'll be a free safety with the Gamecocks. "I feel good about it," he continued. "Coach Spurrier was telling me that pretty soon they are expecting to win the SEC championship, and I can be a part of it." Addison said his commitment to the Gamecocks is firm. He picked USC over Central Florida. He also had offers from Clemson, Miami, Kentucky, Illinois, Arkansas, Louisville and Ole Miss. Last season Addison had 77 tackles and three interceptions.
Good pickup on the heels of the Demario Jeffery commitment. I like his other offers list. Should be a 4-star by recruitings end. This class is shaping up nicely.

Yep. That's what beat y'all last year. Look for more of the same.

This doesn't bother me. Tony Morrell (works for Rivals) said that the reason a couple of our guys are two-star is because Rivals doesn't have enough film on them yet.
But I really don't get that wrapped up in the star stuff. CB Captain Munnerlyn was a 2 star and he was on the preseason all-sec team. In fact but the majority of our best players are NOT four stars.
Kenny McKinley (3 stars)
Captain Munnerlyn (2 stars)
Emanuel Cook (3 stars)
Jasper Brinkley (3 stars)
Eric Norwood (3 stars)
I don't feel like going through more recruiting classes, but you get the jist of it. Of course you would like to have 25 four and five star guys, but I have faith that our coaches no what there doing and like mentioned above, it was good enough to beat you last year.

Both Addison and Payne are at the highest level as 3*'s they can be without being 4*'s....Addison is like the 2nd highest 3* S: ranked #20 in the nation per Rivals, and the #18 S is a 4*. A good senior season for both should be enough to bump them.
Cunningham, Fordham, and Singleton will have a tougher time of reaching 4* status.....they are a little further down the ratings, and their aren't too many 4*'s in each position, esp. Cunningham's case at TE.
Our 3 WR's were low-balled due to some grade issues, Holmes especially: he's most likely a sign and place, and the coaches knew this when they accepted his commitment. He will be a high 3* at least by the end of his senior year, and if he SAP's, a 4* in '10 like Auguste, Allen and Baker. I understand that both Bennett and Smith also has some grade issues, but not like Holmes, and are not expected to be SAP prospects. They may end up as high 3*'s, but will be getting more attention over the next season, and they will be great receivers for us in '09.
Quin Smith is a hard-hitting 3* LB for us who got pretty good reviews by ESPN.
OL Allison is a physical specimen in the mold of '08 OL T.J. Johnson, who was an underrated 3* OL that according to Spurrier is physically ready to play SEC football this season as a true freshman. And Allison is all of 16 (he actually may have just turned 17 this summer, but he was 16 when he committed to us). He'll most likely redshirt, but is already 6-4, 285 and will most likely be taller and bigger by the time he enrolls. Tennessee, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest and Duke were also recruiting Allison, but we were the first to offer. He'll be a high 3* by next February, IMO.....

I see somebody doesn't know much about recruiting. Most kids who are at a particular star rating right now, will have at least another one (often two more) by the time they are signed. This is extremely early to be talking about recruiting; and these kids still have an entire season to boost their ratings. Coaches are offering prospects, and taking commitments from guys based on what potential they see in players right now... not how many stars are by his name. Those are only good indicators for those of us who don't have a chance to see the guys in person. UF has a few 3* players, too; but I guarantee you they'll be 4* or 5* players by year's end. I can say that with confidence because he's pulled in the #2 ('06), #1 ('07), and #3 ('08) classes his last 3 years. I'm quite certain Spurrier and his staff is every bit as good a judge of talent.
In fact, these two 2* guys are committed to USC, and were also recruited by UGA:
DeMario Bennett WR 2*
DeAngelo Smith WR 2*
And, UGA has actually offered seven 3* and one 2* players.

And? Is that your comeback to why you guys will not sign a top 10 class?

They didn't sign a top 10 class largely because they finished 6-6. They are off to a great start for 2009, and after this season their ranking will be much higher. I promise.

There's no arguing that we don't get the same quality of recruits that the elites enjoy. But I believe high schools are producing more quality players every year, than the year before. There are more to choose from and, unlike in Bear Bryant's days, you can't put them all on scholarship to keep them away from your opponents. IMO, that's one of the reasons we've got more parity now than ever.
You may get the 4 and 5 star players, but there will be plenty of 3 star players (like Sidney Rice) that make your 5 star secondary look like JV. We may even get a few of the highly touted that actually turn out to be good, unlike Demetrius Summers.
You're beating us and have beaten us repeatedly. That gives you every right to disparage. We're hoping that will change. If we didn't, then we wouldn't be selling the W-B out EVERY year. We'll welcome Georgia to Columbia again this year, but we expect you to lose. Why else would we care?
P.s. I'm kinda sorry that you're even keeping up with us. Your arrogance has always been one of the biggest reasons we ever beat Georgia.

It must have sucked for your highly touted recruits to get burned last year and not even score a TD against us. BETWEEN THE HEDGES of all places . You guys do have higher quality recruits, no doubt. Stars
don't mean everything, i think we proved that last year..
