Ron Artest is now a Rocket!

On the surface, this appears to be a GREAT deal for the Rockets. They finally have their third piece to complement Yao and T-Mac and gave up very little for it. Artest is in his final year of his current contract as well, so even if everything blows up, the Rockets aren't locked into a long term commitment. Artest brings an "edge" and toughness to a team that definitely needs it...the same team that has gotten man-handled by the Jazz the past two seasons.

I know that there aren't many NBA fans here, but what do you all think of the deal? Of course it's a great deal on paper, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I've NEVER been a fan of Artest and there is certainly a risk to bringing him in. What if he "goes Artest" on us?? I'm just not a big fan of jack-a$$es and Artest is a BIG one! Will he be happy being the 3rd option on this team?

Of course I was torn yesterday when I heard the news and one day in, my concerns are already being justified. Yao was asked about the addition of Ron Ron and he said that it's a great addition to the Rockets, but expressed some concern regarding chemistry.

Of course his concerns drew a predictable reply from Artest stating "I understand what Yao said, but I'm still ghetto," Artest said, according to the report. "That's not going to change. I'm never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don't think he's ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he'll understand what I'm about."

"I', never going to change my culture"? "I'm still ghetto"? Great!! Exactly what we need!! What the hell is he talking about anyway??
I don't want to over blow this as I really think it's nothing, but it certainly underscores my concern. The guy's a ticking time-bomb and a jack a$$ at that. Perhaps my Rockets need some of that, but is it really going to pay off?? Thoughts??
