"Howard Stringer dismissed the Wii last week as an "expensive niche gaming device" that he doesn't see as a competitor, despite the machine's impressive sales."
What a dumb ass. The sales figures come out tomorrow and the Wii is expected to hit the 10 million mark while the PS3 is hovering around 3 million. Not to mention the Nintendo DS is crushing the PSP. Somebody buy this guy a clue.
I would rather have a Wii that PS3. He should consider it a threat

As someone posted on Kotaku when this story ran, you have to look at the context of how he said it. He wasn't talking to a group concerned about gaming, but instead, was talking to a group discussing digital delivery of movies, shows, etc.
Also, the Wii really isn't a threat to the PS3 or the 360 because it's really in a different class of consoles. Many people have a Wii + 360 or PS3 or just a Wii becuase they are outside the normal gaming demographic

He will be forced to turn over his seat before long. Sony is getting worse by the day, and they are doing nothing about it. They will either have to cut the price of the systems or come out with TWO franchise saving titles. It's about all over in the console war and I'm close to throwing in my 'proverbial' PS3 towel.
With Final Fantasy, God of War, and Rock Band 2 possibly moving to 360 only...I will be forced to purchase the Microsoft devil box. Gears of War 2 is something I can't possibly miss anyway...it's just too bada**.
I wouldn't call a Wii competition either... lets face it, you aren't going to be buying a Wii to play Call of Duty or Madden. And if you do, props to you, because those controllers drive me nuts. Works awesome for party games and such, but I would never use it for games I wanted to really get into.

Final Fantasy will never move to 360 only. God of War won't either becuase David Jaffe is a Sony lover. You're just going to see third party titles stop being platform exclusive or have some sort of extra content only allowed on one side (extra DLC on 360) due to massive quantities of cash being tossed around.

I didn't think so either, but a friend of mine that is a EA developer has been mentioning some future titles being 360 exclusive.
Cianne
07-17-2008, 01:43 AM
Well EA is a publisher so it's possible that Microsoft has made a deal for an exclusive deal or at least a timed exclusive with the developer. That's what they did with 2K and Bioshock.

Yeah that's what I was thinking only a couple of future titles...maybe not so much the series. It's still dissapointing...

You're right about the guy losing his job soon. He should have lost it BEFORE this system came out, because Sony's ENTIRE company was basically pegged on this system, win or lose. If the PS3 doesn't catch fire soon, stick a fork in 'em, Sony's done.
I believe Rock Band 2 is going to be coming out for every system, it's just that the 360 version is coming out first.
And Cianne, I know what you said is somewhat true. But I don't think hoping that people MIGHT buy your system after buying a Wii is a soluble business model. Wish in one hand..you know the rest. :D
I actually like Wii on the Madden, with nunchuku controller attached.

They have to be working on a console that will be competition to the Wii market.
My parents bought a Wii. They are almost 60 and have never had any interest in video games. My next door neighbors bought a Wii. They are hippies and I was really surprised to find out they even own a television. So the Wii may not be a threat to the sniper type games but Nintendo has definitely found a new audience. It might be a while before Microsoft and Sony get a comparable console in stores but I would think they are certainly behind the scenes working on following suit.
By the way the Wii is awesome. I've always been a Nintendo fan though, preferring the cartoon style characters.

For me, the coice is simple. Pay $250 for a Wii or pay in $400-$500 range for a PS3.
The Wii is the best buy (for your money) IMO.
Also one of the best gaming experiences you can have is playing Tiger Woods golf on the Wii. The only other gaming experience I can compare to that is HALO on the 360.
Good for nintendo...Keep selling em

Little children play those games on every platform. So yes, it sure is. I think Call of Duty is the most violent game ever released for the Wii... lol

Lol. If I had money to burn...Id probably buy a PS3. No doubt. Id own a Wii just for fun but Id use PS3 for NCAA, Madden etc.
I just refuse to pay $500 for a video game console. Add that to an extra controller, a few new games, your inching closer and closer to $1000. I have high interest mortgage payments, car payments etc. No way will I get a PS3 or Xbox untill their prices are more reasonable.
Ill take the Wii. The Wii sports game which comes with it is fun enough as it is. I cant tell you how much fun my friends and I have had having drunken Wii bowling tournaments. Beer + Wii =fun. All I need to buy now is Madden, Call of Duty, NCAA and Tiger woods golf and my gaming needs will be met. Oh and once I get all this, my total is still under $500. Imagine that.

Granted, Sony's gaming division took a big hit on the chin last year, but they have sold 1.5 million more units than the 360 so far in '08. Mainly due to better games for the PS3 this year and being the best Blu-ray player on the market. Outside of the U.S. it's not even close. Let us also not forget Microsoft took a big hit too, due to the "rings of death" nightmare.
PS3 added movies and TV shows this week. "Life with Sony" will be out at the end of this month. And "Home" is going to be huge....it's coming out this fall. What has the 360 added? Simply put, there's no way it will outsell the PS3 this year.

Same here. I can't afford that crap. It's just ridiculous how much these entertainment companies are screwing over the American public. Neither the 360, Wii, or PS3 are honestly "next generation consoles". I've been playing video games since Frogger, and I'm fine with my ps2 thank you very much. :)
Also, I don't see NCAA '09 being any different from '08 whatsoever. I probably will however buy Madden '09 simply because there's more competition and less cheaters in online gameplay. Plus, "All-Madden" is much more difficult than "Heisman". The more difficult a game is, the more realistic. The more realistic a game is, the more entertaining.

Last time I checked, Xbox360's are selling at around $300, far less than the PS3 which is an absurd $500.

It was absolute garbage on the PS3 last year. They should have never put it out. To compare it to '09 would be like comparing McDonald's to Fleming's. JMO, though. :D

What is Flemings? And I like McDonald's. I remember when '08 came out. It was very defense-friendly. I thought it was 100% better than '07 hence I am a defensive player... 'til I went online. It was bearable for a while, because everyone knows the win to loss record is tainted as f***. I was ranked #1 for the longest time, yet my W2L record was like 71-20 or something. I even remember the breaking point for me too. I lost three games in a row due to cheaters. I broke my controller and put a dent in the wall. That was it for me and online gameplay.
Is cheating a big problem on the ps3? If not, I still can't afford it, but it will be worthy of stealing.

Incorrect on the games. The PS3 outsells the 360 due to it being the best and cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market. The attachment rate of games per console shows the 360 is far ahead of any other system.
Yes, PS3 added movies and tv shows. The 360 added the entire Netflix library. Sony had the worst announcements bar none at E3 and that is pretty much the general consensus. Picking ahd choosing announcements while not looking at the other consoles is pretty bad.

I'm sure there is cheating, Kreiger. Either that, or people quitting in the middle of a game. That's why I usually just play friends and family online.

Yeah, I forgot about 360 getting Netflix and I could care less about Final Fantasy. PS3 bringing movies is cool, but I have an AppleTV for that...so that was a wash for me. I was more excited about Life with Sony. I guess it's all in how you want to use your system.

people quitting in the middle of a game
That is the #3 most obnoxious thing about the online feature. I usually just "quit and don't count" which is a total waste of time on my behalf.
The #2 most obnoxious thing is someone who quits in the middle of the game, then right as you're about to finish the CPU off in the fourth quarter, you lose your connection and get an automatic loss.
Obviously the #1 most obnoxious thing about online play in NCAA *drumroll* is when you're stomping the CRAP out of your sh*t-talking opponent who puts in some sort of cheatcode or something and gets an automatic win while you are awarded with a big fat loss...
Other notable mentions (bonus cheaters...!) : :D
Glitchers... They try to keep their cheating discreet...
Players who play with "scrambling" QBs and run backwards the second the ball is snapped. Although this can be stopped, very realistic, EA. Step ya game up, homie.
Hm, all this bashing... The greatest thing about the NCAA online gameplay experience is when you come across a sh*t-talker that doesn't know how to cheat. ;)

I love my PS3, but saying the Wii is not a threat is ridiculous! I had a replacement PS3 send to me and the controller was broken. I don't know if the box was dropped or the controller(I'm think this, because the ps3 works fine) was broken by service agent and just send back that way, but it ticked me off.:mad:

I'm sure there is cheating, because I see a lot people who are cheating on COD4.
One time this gator fan quit on me and I was up 28-0 in the second quarter and I was pissed, because I have 2-13 record online.

There's a glitch with QB bootleg! The QB runs up into the line and then rolls out. Must of the time you get sack when it happens.
I don't know if this is glitch, but sometimes online players(Some of the ones, I play with) can stop at the line and let the D-line just pass by and break a big gain.
