let me start by saying that I absolutely 100% do not want anything bad to happen to either of the candidates, but i was thinking: if one of the candidates were to die before the election, what would happen?

would the party in question put the candidate who got the second most delegates up for president? i think we almost went through this with RFK....

I think that's how it works . . . it's something I'm sure they can work out before the convention, but how big of a friggin' mess would this be if it happened in September or October? Would they have to have another convention? My gosh I don't think this country could stomach something like that happening right now.

Actually a candiate must be nominated at the convention. This is the time that the delegates cast their ballots. Up until that time, they would just nominate another person and yes it would most likely be the one that recieved the second most delegates.
