Israel and Iran: War Looming?

Israel's defense minister has hinted at readiness to attack Iran, saying his country "proved in the past that it won't hesitate to act when its vital security interests are at stake." But Ehud Barak added "the reactions of (Israel's) enemies need to be taken into consideration as well."

Tensions with Iran intensified after Tehran launched war games and long-range misslie tests this week, warning Tel Aviv would be "set on fire" if Israel attacks Iran over its nuclear program.


Israel suspects Iran is building nuclear weapons. Iran denies that, but its president has often said Israel should be "wiped off the map."


In 1981, Israel bombed an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor. Israel also hit a suspected nuclear facility in Syria in September.


The head of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries warned Thursday that oil prices would see an "unlimited" increase in the case of a military conflict involving Iran, because the group's members would be unable to make up the lost production.

"We really cannot replace Iran's production - it's not feasible to replace it," Abdalla Salem El-Badri, the OPEC secretary general, said in an interview.


Iran, the second-largest producing country in OPEC, after Saudi Arabia, produces about four million barrels of oil a day out of the daily worldwide production of close to 87 million barrels.

About time we started talking about this. It was only weeks ago that Israel sent their air force out on a training mission in which they bombed targets in the middle of the ocean. The mileage they flew is the exact same distance that Iran is from Isreal.
Both Israel and Iran have demonstrated that they are capable of attack. The only question is...when?

Israel will not be like the US and pop a couple of targets and wait for a response, they will go in there with all barrels blazing and go for the victory right away. The talking will be over....and so will Iran. Israel will protect themselves at whatever cost this time....and they have the means to do it too! After that, who knows. But Iran will be a distant memory.

Apparently the missile shield in Eastern Europe is intended to protect our allies from Iran. According to intelligence only one missile was fired today and it was an unexploded one from yesterday and not a new round of testing.

Russia is pissed, because they want the US to use their missle defense system.

I agree. Israel will be brutal. And we don't have to worry too much about the other Muslim countries; they will be hesitant to become actively involved because they are cowards when it comes to real war; they only deal in terrorism.

I actually think that we'll be the ones to do Iran.........Israel really wants us to do it because of the backlash they'll get from the other Mid East countries if they do it. Either way it's gonna happen before Bush leaves the White House, we have warships tetering on Iran's waters in the Persian Gulf daring them to attack us.
