I hate to tell the guy but Texas is not the South. It is the Southwest or its own little region but the South stops after you cross the Mississippi with the exception of La. and Ark.
Also, he better get ready for some emails from Ole Miss fans considering how low he ranked the Grove.

25. UNC-Duke Victory Bell-Since a 20-0 win in 1948 by the UNC Tarheels the Victory Bell has been one of the South's top rivalry trophies. The schools only 10 miles apart have recently began to paint the bell the color of the winning school's colors.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I didnt relieze either of those schools even had football teams

When I hear "traditions" I think of long standing actities that are associated w/ certain schools and their fan bases.
I don't think that "Enter Sandman" can be a "tradition" due to its relative newness. Cool song and great entrance though.
Also, they're really stretching to call the Lincoln Financial / Jeff Pilot games a tradition.
The idea for the article was good, the final product leaves a little to be desired.

I would think running through the T would be more of a tradition than Rocky Top but whatever I'll take it at #1. The idea of the article was great but I think they should have shrank it down to 10 and given it some more thought.

Just a little history on the famous Hog Call, past to present.
Back in the day when ABC televised the only game in town, so to speak. That being There were rarely night games televised and we only at best would see a double header on Saturdays. When ABC brought their cameras to the Ozarks & Boston Mountain ranges, for a game of the week, (Mostly being Arkansas vs Texas), as a kid I can clearly recall ABC announcer Chris Schenkel's voice during a timeout and the camera panning to the south horizon where the Boston Mountain range can clearly be seen and in the background you hear the start of the Hog Call, and Schenkel telling fans to listen for a moment to the most familiar sound in college sports.
And it sound great back in the mid to late sixties.
He call would make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, and send chills down your entire body. The crowd knew how to properly do the call.
Today, the call totally frustrates me. The cheerleaders have seem to take it upon themselves to modernize the call which sucks to old school fans as myself.
The main difference the Whoo starts loud and strong and fades to silence, then a pause. Fans today do not pause at the right moment of the call. It suppose to be...
Whooooooooooooooooooooooooo-pause-Pig-slight pause-Sooie!
Whooooooooooooooooooooooooo-pause-Pig-slight pause- Sooie!
Whooooooooooooooooooooooooo-pause-Pig-slight pause-Sooie,
Razorbacks!
It's been so freaking long since I've heard it done correct that it saddens me. I wish a campaign would begin where we as ole school fans could bring it back the way it suppose to be.

You must be deaf Grandpa.... there is nothing wrong with the Hog Call. Us in the student section do it better than any crowd in the history of the University. Get with the program gramps!

Really? Many teams run through a letter, that's really not that big of a deal. Rocky Top is what most identify UT with.
I've seen the Vols run through the "T" and to be honest I think Auburn running through the "AU" logo is more impressive. Arkansas of course runs through an "A".
Rocky Top is unique and there isn't another team out there that sings it. As an outsider I think that's your top tradition.

Texas seceded from the Union, therefore it is a Southern state, to be included with Missouri and Kentucky that sent delegates to the Confederate Congress. Also, having been to every SEC school, I think the Grove is overrated. Wow, girls tailgating....can't see that anywhere else....anyway...Roll Tide

Interesting Tid-bit.... Arkansas has been running through an A a lot longer than Tennessee has been running through a T.

Well it might have been then, it is not now. Texas is it own place. It is part of the south west. It is not a southern state, at least not in culture. Mizzu sure is hell is not one either.
And the Grove is more then good looking girl. It is about that whole piece of real estate and it is about how the put on their tailgates to the nines.
Anyway, welcome to the site.

I'll guess we'll agree to disagree, then. About both subjects.

Easy Jr. I was calling the hogs when your daddy was still $hitting yellow. You need to do you and your fellow hog section callers a favor while your up at school and check the archives.
I'll be expecting an apology after you view some classic "Hog Calls" kid. And stay the hell out of my yard you damn young whippersnapper.

The Grove is truly impressive. You gotta see it in person. It's not the normal tailgating scene. It's the epitome of Ole Miss IMO. I'd definitely give it a spot on top southern traditions.

You can't go by culture. Florida's culture is nothing like the rest of the south and its a southern state. The Cajun culture in LA is nothing like anything else in the south either. The Tennessee Mountain culture is far different from the Mississippi Delta. Go to Charleston and then to Richmond and tell me if those 2 cultures are the same.

Just curious, can a Barner explain the tradition of the stripe tie male fans wear. It seems to be students, but I'm sure alumni do as well. Like the Houndstooth Fedora in T-town, was this Auburn's answer to match yalls instate rival?
Would like to know the history behind this.

We just like representing our Orange and Blue. Not really sure there was a rhyme or reason behind why the ties took off.
