OK, not that this should be persuasive to anyone, but I just voted in the collegerivals.org pre-season top 25 poll. I think it comes out next week. Here's my top 25
1. Georgia
2. OK
3. USC (California version)
4. OSU
5. Florida
6. WV
7. Clemson
8. Missouri
9. Ariz. State
10. VA Tech
11. TX
12. AL
13. Oregon
14. Auburn
15. Kansas
16. Penn State
17. LSU
18. Wisconsin
19. Pitts.
20. Ill.
21. USC (Carolina Version)
22. Michigan
23. UCLA
24. Texas Tech
25. Miss. State.
So, 7 SEC teams in the top 25. And, it was tough to leave my alma mater (Tenn.) out. But, I see them coming in 4th in the SEC East this year, so too many loses to be in the top 25.
I've got Miss State at #25, South. Carolina at 21. And Alabama at 12. Not many voters will have those teams there. But, I bet they do by the end of the year :)
Can't wait!

Bama at #12 might be a bit high, but other than that I don't seen any problems with your poll.
MSU's offense has to get better and the defense will be interesting to watch with the loss of Ellis Johnson.

So they've got 3 wins there and one I'll say "toss-up" game, although that looks like a match-up that favors GT.
LSU, Auburn, both losses probably.... I could see MSU giving Auburn a run for their money, maybe winning, but it's a long shot.
Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss are all toss-ups
who else is on the docket?

The SECW may not have a bad team in it next year. Top to bottom, the strongest Div. in the NCAA. Bama won't be ranked that high in the preseason poll, if at all. Tennessee will.

The East is MUCH stronger. UGA and UF are stronger than any team in the west. Tennessee is probably somewhere on par with Auburn and LSU. South Carolina is stronger than everyone but Auburn and LSU. Vandy and Kentucky might not be any good though.

I would say we have a decent chance at winning the following games:
LA Tech
SELA
MTSU
GA Tech
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Kentucky
Vandy
and a little longer shot at Auburn.

I don't believe that. Bama was an average team in a transition year and we took UGA to OT and slaughtered UT. Auburn and LSU both beat UF.
Those two teams look like the best two in the SEC going into the year, but not by much. Overall, from top to bottom, the SECW is stronger.

The game is at Home for GT first of all, secondly, they have a VERY good defense, anchored by a possible All-Americans Micheal Johnson at DE and Vance Walker at DT. Their offense doesn't look too shabby either. All in all they don't have too many returning 4 on offense 4 on defense. BUT, sophomore running back Jonathan Dwyer was spectacular as Choice’s backup in 2007, rushing for 436 yards and 9 touchdowns. Dwyer should be salivating at the idea of playing in a rushing offense potent enough to feature seven players with more than 460 yards rushing last fall. LT Andrew Gardner was a first-team all-A.C.C. performer as a junior and is a potential all-American as a senior. Vance Walker and Daryl Richard combine to form one of the best interior duos in the A.C.C. Walker was a first-team all-A.C.C. choice last fall after finishing with 45 tackles (14 for loss) and a Yellow Jacket-best 8.5 sacks. The senior defensive end Michael Johnson is poised for a breakout season after posting four sacks as a junior. The leading returning tackler is the sophomore Morgan Burnett (57 stops), who also led the team with three interceptions.
Tech has a lot of production from young players. I MSU going into Tech with High Hopes, but I don't see them leaving with a win. They will be more than competitive in the weak ACC and I think that will give them confidence at home against MSU. The schedule doesn't favor MSU either, which sandwiches GT between a home game agianst Auburn and an away game against LSU. The season gets a little easier from there, but those three games could give MSU a 2-3 record to start the season on.

I think we split with BAMA/UGA/FLA/AU and I really don't see us losing to SC.
Definitely top 3 maybe 2 in East.

Who the F are you kidding? The West can only argue that they are CLOSE behind the East instead of FAR behind the East... there is no argument that they are stronger. Georgia and Florida can both beat ANY team in the West (and will likely not lose a game to a Western conference opponent this season), there's not a single team out West that can say they can beat all the teams in the East.

No one else thinks that V Tech is the most over-rated team on that list.
Think about how good they were last year.
Now take out:
- A NFL first round draft pick O lineman
- Three starting WRs that were all drafted
- Junior CB and defensive leader Brandon Flowers
- A LB, DE, DT that all got drafted
- Another CB, LB, and DT
They may fall from the top 25 all together (MAYBE).

I absolutely agree. But Va Tech is always overrated. They have had no success recruiting, no ability in recent years to compete for a national title. At best their high ranking is a ploy to get more people on the East coast to watch college football. That's it.

Uhhh, LSU and Auburn are way more than capable of beating every team in the East. They dont look QUITE as good as UGa anf UF going INTO the season but the difference is minimal. Keep in mind between UGA and UF you guys lost 2 out of a possible 6 games against the West last year. UGA's West schedule is harder this year than last.
Saying LSU or Auburn can't beat Florida or Georgia next year is plain stupid. Can't wait for the season to start to stop stupid discussion like above.

So you are saying not one team in the west can beat every single team in the east (well nobody can because they dont play every single team in the west but if they did it's quite possible). My friend I hate to inform you this but this is college football and anything can happen in this league. I think LSU and Auburn could probably do it, but that is just my opinion.

East is definitely stronger.. Georgia and Florida will both be pre ranked in the top 5 and both will have legitimate shots at winning a national title. No team in the West has that going for them.
As for the top 25... I'm confused as why a Tennessee fan left his own team out of the top 25 while sticking Bama as 12!?!? I think both are huge mistakes.

by the way, not sure if i did it "right" or not. i didn't rank the teams by how strong i think they are -- just by how i think they'll end up at the end of the season. UT for instance is a good team. but, they are not as good as FL, GA or Auburn. they lose those 3 games to start. then they play alabama, miss. state, south carolina, ucla -- if they win more than 2 of those games i'll be surprised. often vandy and/or kentucky play tenn. tougher than expected. hey, i'm a tenn. fan. i'll root for them every game. but, i don't think this is their year. hope i'm wrong.
on bama, no doubt i have them very high. odds are i'm wrong. but, i just have a feeling about them this year. they looked so strong first half of last year; i think they will play that way again. they've got a good senior QB. A good coach ready to win. LSU is down (huge QB hole) and Auburn is Auburn, but I don't think they win a 7th straight against Bama (at Bama). I just don't believe it.
So, I just think at the end of the year Alabama will win the SEC west with 2 losses. they'll win it by beating Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
Miss. State -- i love that team.
GA vs Fl is a tough call too. Florida could be awesome. i mean they only have a junior QB who already won the heisman. but, i think their D is weak and I think Georgia is a powerhouse. compare how the two teams played in their bowl games.
Anyway, we'll see.

hope you are right. but i think auburn is on the road. don't see the vols winning there. and this am i hear that colquitt is suspended for the first 5 games due to DUI. that's a big loss as UT will be punting a lot against GA and FL -- and he's a potent weapon. i think my mindset has been affected by all the tough losses we've gone through the past few years. I guess maybe those stick with me more than the wins. i have little confidence in Fulmer's ability to win big games. I bet Fulmer has a losing record against top 20 teams since '98 (after '98). and .250 or less against top 10. would love to see that analysis done....

see, what happens in college football is, players graduate and/or leave for the NFL. Others get arrested and thrown off the team. This year is a new year. Nobody "disprespects" LSU, but they lost some considerable talent. Neither Florida or Georgia lost that much. And who used the term "light years"?
