Thought I might as well join in on the mindless malarkey going on around here.

considering a libs position this thread is strange...........kinda like you're making fun of homosexuals w/the thread title and that you wish McCain wasn't for Gay marriage

What I don't understand is why this is an issue at all....I mean, is it really that important what a candidate thinks when we have so many more issues that are far more important? Economy, immigration, Iraq, border/port security, monetary policy, foreign policy, education, unemployment, inflation, renewable energy, the plummeting US dollar, social security....the list of more pressing issues this country faces that are more important than gay/lesbian marriage is staggering.
I'm sure it's important to homosexuals but what percentage of the population do they make up? 1%? Choosing a candidate to vote for based on what their view is on gay/lesbian marriage is just crazy, IMHO.

This shouldn't be an issue since the responsibility regarding this issue lies with the Supreme Court. The only thing that matters to me is McCain's desire to appoint conservative-leaning Justices. Even if he doesn't, I know where the other side stands, and I don't much like that, either.

Kinda like everything he used to stand for, what a major disappointment. At first I thought we'd have two good candidates instead of two bad ones for the first time in a long time, instead we ended up with a visionary and a flunky. It makes me sad for McCain, but Obama will win so it's all good in the end.

The only reason it's important is because it totally contradicts what the US has represented since the beginning of our independence. Which is Christian values...

It is an issue because the at-large media wishes it to be. Much of the rancor one hears and sees is the result of the at-large media offering up the topics which interests THEM.
Neither candidate wants to address the REAL PROBLEMS just like Congress doesn't for doing so only pisses off those who ARE THE PROBLEM and if pissed off, they WILL vote.
ONLY when enough folks get a belly full of this tripe will there be a movement to return our Nation to the REPUBLIC it was intended to be.
Social issues such as gay marriage don't matter one bit in the grand scheme of things. The only reason it is even brought up is because they usually provoke emotional responses and the media thrives on them. If we would go back to our constitution and handle these small, unimportant issues at a more local level, everything would work out for the better. The more "difficult" the social issue, the more localized the solution should be.
That being said, I say they are unimportant in shadows of issues like the economy, foreign policy, etc. They are important as far as morality and whatnot, but when it comes down to it, there are far more pressing issues.

Big bloody deal, really - the homosexual marriage rubbish just serves the rile up the rabble so that they don't have to think about the big issues, I reckon. I thought America was all about freedom? In which case, who gives a flying feathered f*ck whether gays get married? Just let it happen and move on.
And don't give me this nonsense about the dissolution of marriage as an institution - heteros did a bloody good job of that all by themselves!
Live and let live in regard to that issue.

My fiance's mom is gay. Her and her lady friend had some ceremony and now they consider themselves married. They really don't want to offend anyone, they just want the same benefits that any other people who love each other have. It kinda creeps me out but they love each other as much as any "normal" couple does. My biggest issue is with it is that one day I'm going to have to explain to my kids that grandma is gay and what that means. But I just don't see this as that big of a deal. The flamboyant gays ruin it for the rest of them. I really think people associate homosexuality with the dudes in make-up and dresses at those parades they put on when really that is only about 5% of the gay population.

That's funny... I always thought the U.S represented freedom of choice and religious tolerance. At least that's what the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights proclaim to offer and guarantee.;) I think you're getting the U.S. and the Immoral Majority mixed up.

I do not care if people are gay but I do not want them to get tax breaks (as a married couple) that will ultimately be paid with my own tax dollars. jmo
My only problem with the homosexual community is how they are always comparing themselves to black people with their struggles. Sorry but sexual preference does not make you an ethnic minority.

If you want to know one reason that health care insurance costs are so high:
I worked for a company and they were one of the first to give full benefits to gay employees who had a "domestic partner". When they did this, the amount deducted from my pay more than quadrupled. There are two reasons why it quadrupled: 1) the average life expectancy of a homosexual male is 44 years old (2005 figures) 2) the potential for fraud is very high and the additional resources needed by the insurance provider to prevent and investigate fraud factor heavily

Come November, I'll walk up to the voting machine and pull the lever and vote for the lesser of the two evils: John McCain. Sad we don't have a true conservative running this time.

That's interesting stuff timNem, I didn't know that. Wow! 44 years old for homo males? Gee, the Sugeon General needs to put a label on homosexuality that states it's hazorious to your health. Man, that's worst than tobacco!
