Top psychiatrist concludes liberals clinically nuts

Eminent psychiatrist makes case ideology is mental disorder

WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." (http://shop.wnd.com/store/item.asp?DEPARTMENT_ID=6&SUBDEPARTMENT_ID=20&ITEM_ID=2285) "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."
For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.
Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;

augmenting primitive feelings of envy;

rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

Clinically nuts? What about practically? :laugh: BTW, what does the 1040 of Dr. Quack, with the book deal, look like? :whistle: And, when is his narrative on Little Lord Fauntleroy Complex coming out... you know, describing the childhood rearing responsible for Republican sense of entitlement?

Interesting points but it probably wouldnt be too hard to label a lot of "conservatives" as "nuts" too....and definitely not the neo-cons. How many people think it doesnt matter what we do to the world because some guy who died a long time ago is coming back to take them into the sky before things get too bad? How many say that our form of capitalism has done no real damage to the world or this country? How many wait to see who the Christian Coalition backs before deciding who to vote for?

* creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
"I cant count the number of times I've heard a conservative tell me they were the victim of a liberal society."

* satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
"We all know there arent any conservatives who employ this mentality"

* augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
I'd like to know what examples of this he's speaking about as it pertains to "the liberal mind"..again plenty of conservatives practice this way of thinking. Who do you think invented "keeping up with the Jones'"

* rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
"Yeah, because gays dont count as people so they dont factor into this equation...and pot smokers dont either so laws against drug use dont count either. Plus the federal govt. got more empowered during 2000-2006(during which republicans and PLENTY of conservatives controlled the Congressional and Executive branches of the federal govt.) than just about any other period in history.

Not saying that religious beliefs make anyone crazy...but I've heard people actually argue that it wont matter what we do to the world because Jesus is coming back soon anyway. The belief in Jesus thing is fine, even the belief that he is coming back soon....but to use that to jump to the conclusion that it doesnt matter what we do to the Earth is pretty crazy as far as Im concerned. Every generation has believed they were living in the end times...and even Jesus' disciples believed he was coming back during their lifetime. Well, we're still here. So I think it would be better to try and be more cautious of what we do to the Earth in terms of how it will affect the future. Havent you seen some of the "hellfire and brimstone apocalypse now" groups and thought to yourself.."Now theres a group of people that isnt firing on all cylinders?"

People who are comfortable with zero accountability are token Christians... they are token religious in general. That is a sad commentary on our society.

This is ridiculous and is why I steer clear from political debates on here. So many of you conservatives simply resort to name-calling and ridicule to make your point. It's quite sad and I would've hoped you were above it, Tim.

Now that I think about it, you and Paradox do seem to high-five a lot of Aza's posts which do exactly as I've spelled out.

It's a shame that one can't enjoy a healthy political debate on this website because of juvenile antics such as this.

Well MSNBC and Fox news aren't much better in terms of "healthy political debates."

That's very true, but I can choose not to watch them and even they don't get as bad as some of the garbage on this site does.

It's like having Fox News pop up in the middle of an ESPN game around here.

You might want to chill. If your skin is that thin, then yeah, you should steer clear of alot of the conversations on this board. And if insensitivity bothers you so much then it must only apply to others and not you. http://www.sectalk.com/boards/showpost.php?p=457108&postcount=1188

As far as high-fiving aza, isn't that what you are supposed to do when you agree with a post? I don't think aza is trying to live vicariously through Internet Reputation.

would love to find the first 50 posts by Sabanocchio to prove what an A-hole he was before he found out about high fives and rep LOL

and yes, Tim, I do live vicariously through my Internet reputation.....I'm using it as an alternative source of credit when I refinance my mortgage in October since my traditional credit might not suffice

dude, do you find myself trying to "prove" anything to anyone here....

there are many posters here I have intelligent back and forth with and there is always respect but if someones an idiot I argue w/them in a way they understand

if someone feels Im an idiot and wants to have at me argumentatively then they can have at it

and the highlighted portion of my post was me calling my own momma a commy bitch...........sorry, i'll watch what I call my mother around you in the future
