I dunno about the rest of you, but Barry Melrose is my favorite NHL personality and his moving to coach the Lightning and leave ESPN kinda sucks IMO.

This hire will benefit Tampa Bay greatly. Melrose has hired a great staff and the Lightning will be better sooner than later.

If sports cities were stocks, I'd buy big into Tampa Bay right now. Between the 'Rays, Bucs, and Lightning, that is gonna be the hottest city to see championship caliber pro sports in the coming years.

Isn't he really like the only NHL personality on ESPN? I mean they had Don Cherry during the last half of the playoffs this year, but I can't think of another. Hockey gets way too little coverage in my opinion.

Anyone else see the blurb that said the last time Melrose was in coaching, Vinny Lecavalier was 14???

Not sure I agree that the Lightning will be a "good" team in the next few years. Yes, they have St. Louis and Lecavalier and just drafted Stamkos, but they were also the worst team in the NHL last year. There are a lot of holes for Melrose and his staff to fill to get this team to a point where they can contend for the playoffs IMO.

I agree, Melrose is clearly taking over a "project" team. They won't be good for a couple of years unless something drastic happens in Free Agency.

Yeah, they brought in Cherry @ the end of the postseason and let me tell you those goofy-looking jackets and ties are crazier in HD!

Hockey has been a back-burner sport to many since the strike, but ESPN is my #1 source of info and they really downplay it. This was the first season I really was into it since the strike.
