Now with all the talk about being ranked too high and preseason hype aside lets get your opinion on the problems your team will face coming into next season. Heres what I could see potentially hurting UGA.

Running Back: Yes I said running back. Knowshon is a stud and I feel if we feed him the rock at least 20-25 times a game when our SEC schedule rolls around we will be fine. However, remember when Danny Ware, Thomas Brown and Lumpkin roamed the backfield for UGA. It seems each had sufficient talent but we never let one of them stay in to find their groove. The coaches need to learn from that mistake and see that Knowshon needs to carry the load. Caleb King and Samuel will be great for 10 carries combined but we need to feed Knowshon the ball so he can find his groove. Hes the best back in the SEC and theres no reason not to give him the ball. Hopefully our coaches allow him to excel.

Special Teams AKA KICKER: The kicking position is a very important position especially in the SEC. Making a Kick to tie or take the lead in front of 90,000 plus is a tough task to ask of a freshmen kicker. Blair Walsh excelled in high school and was a very highly rated kicker. However, highschool stats dont necessarly translate to success in the SEC. If the kicking game is a problem it could spell trouble for UGA in close games.

OLINE: Clint Boling just got a DUI and they were already young. They dont concern me as much as last season but we need this group to solidify to protect Matt and allow Knowshon to have a heismen type season. The loss of Boiling hurts.

WR: Could be a problem as in we dont really have a proven option besides MoMass. If the two freshmen T. King and AJ Green come in and provide help we could really see some good things. However, I feel recievers are needed to feel out a game to find their nitch. If we keep subbing in recievers I feel it could diminish their impact.

All in all I expect good things out of the Dawgs this coming seasons these potential headaches are just instances that I could see causing me to consume way to much alcohol this fall.

Defensive line will be our biggest problem. It is not necessarily a lack of talent but a lack of depth. We need some of those 2nd and 3rd stringers to step up big for us and give our starters a breather without missing a step. If they can do that then that should allow our secondary to make some big plays. If not... our entire defense will look sluggish and unrefined.

Special teams: Our kicking and punting are usually pretty solid. We will have to do without Colquitt for the first 5 games so we need to fill that need efficiently until he gets back. If Dennis Rogan can do what he did last year then I think we will be fine on kick returns. I'm worried about covering kicks and punts(which is a given for a Tennessee fan). We need to continue to improve in that category.

Lack of experience at the QB position could be a problem. If Crompton can hit the ground running I think he will be better than Ainge. I'm just worried he is going to have a few problems early. Hopefully they won't change the entire game and he can learn quickly from them because our September schedule is difficult.

Youth.
Offensive over-haul.
One helluva tough schedule.
Lack of depth.

I wouldn't say "problems" but definate question marks going into next season:

-How will our new D Coord do?
-How will Jasper do back on D?
-How will the O-line gell (supposed to be better this year)?
-Who will be the QB?
-Will Mike Davis be able to handle to starting RB position for first time since 05?
-Will Coach Ray improve the special teams enough?
-How many times will Spurrier toss the visor?

The media downfall when Coach Saban references D-Day and the Siege of Yorktown after victories over Tennessee, LSU, and Auburn. And references one of the worst days in American history, Election day 2004 when we lose our first game :D

Oh, and at Linebacker

I would say our punt and kickoff returns suck I believe Tristan Davis will be good if he can stay healthy someone else has to step up and be a threat. Tate should not be returning kickoffs I dont think he ever returned one past the 30. M2J I dont like your post but I love your pole vaulter.

Good observations and mostly spot on. Amazingly, the Dawgs have a few warts but only one is truly a serious matter: kicker. Richt has swung and missed once previously on a 'ship for a PK recruit (Andy Kelly) and managed to discover Coutu during the process. This hotshot from Ft. Lauderdale looked good on film but this time there are 3 others waiting in the wings if he isn't all that.

RB-Losing upperclassmen is never good and the Dawgs lost two good ones in Brown & Lumpy. The position in UGA's scheme demands the ability to pass block and contingent upon picking up that critical skill, King, Jackson, Samuel, and the others will duke it out in August for PT. Moreno must have backup but more importantly, his effectiveness is reliant on the play of his playmates.

OL-Greater numbers of available guys but a real shortage on experience and PT. Second year OL Coach Stacy Searles will earn his paycheck if the Dawgs are to ascend to something more this Fall.

WR-The key position for UGA this Fall if they aspire to greatness. MoMass is a classic possession type receiver but the Dawgs need for somebody to emerge as a true threat. Early enrollee Tavares King showed well in the Spring and AJ Green is on campus and....well, you all will see. ;) The returning guys give UGA good numbers and it isn't too much to expect guys like Harris, Wilson, Moore to help, and speedy Israel Troupe and 6-4 redshirt Walter Hill to surprise.

Coaching: Everything begins with Richt. His decision to take a greater role in managing the team began to pay dividends after the UT game, one where he admitted that he failed to prepare them to play. If Richt can control this team's emotions and focus them when necessary, the Dawgs will live up to all of these preseason billings.

Can we learn to stop the run...this year? Can we stop 3rd and 28?
Will our offensive line play football or continue to play like they don't want to hurt someone's feelings?
Will we be able to get any offensive production from the two presumptive QB's that stunk up spring practice? Will Garcia get immediately arrested or will he wait a couple months?
Can Mike Davis hold on to the football long enough to get run down from behind by a LB?
Will there be anyone else in the backfield that can get through the D-line?
Will we be able to halt our 5 game losing streak against NC State?

We've got lot's of questions.

What is the quarterback situation in USCAR? I know there was headaches after their spring game but has anyone recently stepped above the pack to solidify a spot as the starter this fall?

After the spring game, Spurrier named Tommy Beecher the starting quarterback going into summer and fall camp. However, news of Stephen Garcia's return (on July 1st according to Spurrier) could shake up the whole quarterback battle. So we really won't know until closer to kickoff.

However, we have 2 (not counting Garcia) able quarterbacks in Beecher and Smelley. Smelley outpassed Woodson last year in the Kentucky game. Smelley also directed the offense in putting up 38 on Kentucky and Mississippi State. He also had 3 TD passes against UNC if I'm not mistaken. Smelley also has experience at LSU, at Tennessee, against MSU and Kentucky at home. So, he's got the experience.

IMO, Tommy is the better QB. He's got a better zip on the ball and can scamble and run better than Chris. Beecher also seems to make better decisions. He just needs more confidence and he can be real dangerous.

Garcia is definatley the most talented QB we have. But with him missing all Spring, he'll have an uphill battle. But if he works really hard starting July 1st until August 28th, he may earn the job if the other QBs faulter. It's one of those we'll have to wait and see situations. GO COCKS!

Our obvious problems will be in the LB core. It could be solved with Prince Hall possibly coming back this fall(surprisingly) and if Ezekiel Knight makes its back(would honestly be a miracle). Not to mention if the young super talent contributes, we could be saying our LB core is one of the strongest in the SEC.

We will be counting on the young guys to add some explosiveness this season also. That obviously can be looked at as a weakness, but I think it's a positive.
