What circumstances/job do you think would lure your favorite teams coach away?

In Georgias situation i don't think there is a situation that Richt would leave....not even Fla St. if bowden sr begged.

I think Spurrs wants to stay in the SEC and any higher up SEC program could get him IMO. I thought that if Les left for Michigan, LSU was gonna get him.

He wouldn't go to Alabama when the job was offered, so I guess you don't believe that Alabama's program is "higher up" than South Carolina's? That's interesting.

:crying: blah blah blah blah Quite frankly it wasn't a bigger program at the time, Bama was about in as bad a shape as well... SC still is. And I think Steve was pretty happy there last year, had a top 5 recruiting class and all, but there was pretty high expectations for a turnaround last year and it didn't happen, and I think he'd have gone running to LSU. And by next year should there be another 6-7 win season in Cockland, he may be actively looking for an upgrade.

And I don't recall the job being officially offered to Steve, just rumors (same as rumors for about a 100 different coaches a day). Seems as though rumors were enough for SC to have to promise him facility changes and a pay raise.

Not now for at 56, the diminutive tyrant is at his last stop before retirement. He's wealthy beyond imagination, already has a place on a mountain lake to retire to, and besides that, you cannot name another job in college football to top his having been at LSU and now at Bama.

Last time i checked you are still in "as bad shape as well... SC"

This is pre-season. Sure you have good recruits, actually you have the BEST recruits. Now let's see you win.

Spurrier had already been in Gainesville a couple of years when Phil took over. I don't think he would have left Florida to take over the Vols at the time. Now, if Tennessee had fired Majors after the '88 season, he very well may have taken the job, but....

I don't think Phil leaves for anything except retirement. In no way do I see him taking over any other program and he wouldn't have any desire (or would be desired for that matter) to go to the NFL.

As far as Spurs one day coaching the Vols, I find that VERY unlikely. You figure Phil has no less than 2 more years before any such decisions would be made and that means SOS is 2 years deeper into Carolina. Given their age and experience, I just don't see it. But, I guess you never say never!!

Hmmmm....I honestly don't remember!! That was my freshman year and the Vols started 0-6 before winning their last 5 which was the ONLY thing that saved Majors at the time. I remember I had a T-shirt and a button that said "Go Johnny Go....and Take DeVoe!!"

Not a situation I particularly enjoy contemplating, but if Saban should get lured into the midst of any other team, I think he would find himself on the West Coast with those perennially pesky Southern Cal Trojans. I tend to feel that he is presently satisfied, though. I think he is beginning to feel at home wearing the Crimson and White, and also getting comfortable hearing "Roll Tide" wherever he goes. The enthusiasm here is probably one of our best magnets, and I think it has been contagious where Saban is concerned. I think he is having a good time, and as long as that is the case, he will be in Tuscaloosa.

Harris was there from 1983-1988 as the OC (according to Wikipedia ). Man, I remember what a disapointment that year was... out of the house, living on campus, and got to sit in the student section... something at that point of my life was a dream. Spurrier and Duke came into Neyland and upset us, we got b*tch slapped at Georgia and Auburn, and came home to get drilled by LSU. That sucked!! We barely beat Boston College in the final minutes. I remember yelling at all of the BC players as they exited the stadium. One took exception to my excessive hollering and calling him a "stupid yankee". He started to come up into the stands and I think I "shat" myself!! Ahhh....those were the days!!!

Yeah, if most coaches in the nation are offered the USC job tomorrow its definitely something worth thinking about, same can be said for LSU/Florida/Texas/OSU/Oklahoma/Georgia all these jobs are jobs that are full of talent and jobs that any coach worth a damn can walk into and win double digit games with for years to come. It'll be tough for him to say no to, but he's just a couple of years away from having the same type of talent and depth throughout in Bama and that may run through his mind.

Majors was fired after the end of the regular season in 1992. Fulmer actually coached the first three games of that season due to Majors' health issues and then coached the Vols in the Hall of Fame Bowl.

Spurrier was named coach at UF on December 31, 1989.

There's nowhere Fulmer would want to coach, other than Tennessee.
9/10 of coaches dream of coaching at their Alma Mater. Fulmer is no different than the other 8.

I agree!

But 9/10 of colleges would be ready to get rid of their alma mater coach, if they were doing as good as Fulmer has been lately. Especially seeing the great talent UT receives.

We won the East last year and gave te national champions a run for their money. I'd say "lately" he is doing just fine.

I didn't see if it was said, but obviously some of you probably think Coach Saban would leave. I don't think there is a job in the country that would be better then Alabama at this point. Not to mention, with his family loving Tuscaloosa to the fullest...there is no way he would want to leave. Let's hope Mal or someone stupid doesn't make me eat my words.

To the SC fans, if we're going by the assumption Spurrier didn't want the Bama job...who said we even offered it to him in the first place? Both stories are hearsay anyway.
