I quit paying any attention to the NBA eons ago when the Owners decided to make trillionaires out of total morons and that it was OK to raid the High Schools. Evidently I'm far from being alone as viewership and attendance continues to follow a Titanic path.
I found this particularly interesting as I had always suspected that the League and/or its owners manipulated the officiating:

Yes, I read about this in my morning paper.
I have a hard time remembering the last time I watched an NBA game. As much as I enjoy college hoops, the NBA means squat to me (for some of the same reasons you mentioned, as well as others).
As far as this guy's accusations, it doesn't surprise me that the NBA would stoop to this. However, his coming out with these accusations AFTER he got caught "with his hand in the cookie jar" makes you wonder how much you can believe what he says. Hopefully, if true, others will speak up (that may be a little more reliable).

I wouldn't hold my breath for stepping up might be a death sentence for all any of us know. I figured the accused would vent his spleen and we'll see what of it sticks as I'm certain the damage control teams are busy squashing it.
When you consider that the only markets the NBA has are the NE and LA, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see organized crime involvement.

San Antonio, Charlotte, Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas, Orlando, Miami, Houston, are all fine NE Towns.

This part of the story also has fans buzzing here in Houston this morning....
Donaghy also claims that a 2005 playoff series was improperly influenced, saying that referees were instructed to call illegal screens more strictly on a particular player after an opposing owner called to complain after falling behind 2-0 in the series.
Though the document again does not name anyone specifically, Mark Cuban did complain to the league that year about the officiating after his Mavericks fell behind 2-0 in their series with Houston. Dallas went on to beat the Rockets in seven games.
Then-Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy claimed at the time that an official — who was not working the playoffs — informed him of the plan.
"I didn't think that really worked in the NBA, but in this case it has," Van Gundy told reporters after the fourth game of the series, according to USA Today. He was later fined $100,000, a record sum for a coach.
You don't need to watch too many NBA games to begin wondering whether or not there's an agenda. That said, basketball is the one sport that can most easily be influenced by the refs either way. As the players continue to get bigger, quicker, and more athletic, the refs jobs continue to get harder.
I don't think anything will ever come out of these allegations and of course the GodFather Stern has already come out and claimed that the NBA has investigated these claims and found that they are "baseless". Yeah.....right!!! :glare:

I have always believed in the conspiracy theory. Back when the Bulls and MJ were at their height it seemed that the officials always gave the Bulls the calls at the crucial times. They also seemed to switch off though and give the other team the benefit of the calls in certain games to make sure there was no sweep. Each game was a profit because MJ and the Bulls were very popular, so why not make it extra exciting and make the games go 7.

I really enjoyed Minnesota, Seattle and Utah when I went up to New England myself.
