YARDAGE this year?

I think it will be Stafford. Tebow will likely throw more short stuff and run a good bit. JPW could live up to his potential and come out on fire, but right now it looks like Stafford is the one who'll be lighting up the air waves with big gainers.

Considering last year, you'd be a fool to lay money on anyone but Tebow.

Stafford probably has the best shot due to defenses focusing on Moreno and UGA supposedly having an NFL first round caliber receiver on campus. (AJ is supposedly wowing quite a few in the player led passing drills in the offseason).

I think Bama asked too much of JPW last year and it got them in trouble. Arkansas may fall into the same trap this year.

Spurrier has also found that you have to have the physical talent, mental talent and talent surrounding the QB to get the fun and gun rolling again.

I think Crompton and Clawson might be a little like Leak and Meyer. The best QB may not be the one that's best for the system. I could be way off on that, but someone who supposedly knows a grad assistant from Richmond has said as much.

Lotta new faces will make the SEC enjoyable to watch this season.

I think JPW has a good shot at having the most.
Stafford & Tebow certainly could throw for more but we will be spreading the ball around alot more.
For UGA, Moreno will continue to be a yardage machine. UGA will have a few running weapons this year and I think that will lower Staffords potential passing yardage considerably.
Same goes for Tebow. UF will certainly be giving RB's & WR's more carries this year. Even if Moody doesnt quite live up to expectations I still think he will get plenty of carries as long as he stays helathy.
Im not trying to say Bama wont have a running game this year, just that I think JPW will be throwing the ball more than Tebow of Stafford. Add that to the fact that no matter who wants to argue it (Bama fans alike) JPW is talented.

Ill bet my left butt cheek that Tebow will have more broken tackles than any of the QB's listed :D

This isn't about who the best QB is, it's who will throw for the most yardage. I think Arky may struggle with their running game this year so I almost went with Dick. Last years yardage leaders:

I see Tebow throwing for more yardage than he did last year. He will be running the ball less frequently which means he should be able to focus on his passing game more. Also, as weird as this sounds with the loss of Andre Caldwell, the receiving corps is actually significantly better this year than last year and Tebow has at least 2 receivers capable of picking up 10-15 yards after the catch on a routine basis (Harvin and Thompson). Throw in what Chris Rainey can do off of the short little dump passes and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Tebow goes for more than 3500 yards this season.

Granted, a higher percentage of Tebow's yardage will come on yards after the catch.

I agree with Gator that it could be JPW unless Alabama developes a more potent running game. Last year they did not run at all on us. Of course they did not need to, so I am not sure what their running game looks like.

Their running game should be pretty solid next year, behind a great O-Line and the running of Terry Grant. Glenn Coffee and Roy Upchurch are also both a year older and Coffee should be pretty good in the backup role this year. I think Bama's ground game is going to surprise some people and take a lot of pressure off JPW.

Well, of the QB's listed, you'd have to think it would be Tebow. He's the only guy without a proven go-to RB. We do have a few POTENTIAL prospects at the position, so we shouldn't see him running as much; but he'll be focusing much more on his passing game.

JPW has Terry Grant, who will likely get loads of carries; and Bama probably will try not to depend solely on the arm of Wilson. Stafford has Moreno, who will get more than his share of touches on offense, too; along with some for King. Only Tebow doesn't know what his backfield is going to be capable of; and whether he's throwing short or long, the yardage through the air should be even greater than last year. Even the guys he throws to short usually end up taking it a long way. 2 or 3-yard dump-off passes to Harvin rarely go for less than 10 yards. Tebow also has the advantage of having possibly the best receiving corps in the SEC, if not the nation.

So, if last year's numbers look like this:

NAME------------CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT SACKS RAT
Tim Tebow, Florida 234 350 3286 66.9 9.4 32 6 13 172.47
John Parker Wilson, Alabama 255 462 2846 55.2 6.2 18 12 25 114.60
Matthew Stafford, Georgia 194 348 2523 55.7 7.3 19 10 15 128.92

you can't help but think Tebow will stay significantly ahead of the pack.

I believe JPW will come out and have a good year so I will go with him. Tebow a close second. After last years up and down season for JPW I bet he puts in some hard work over the offseason.

It may be:

JPW - because of Julio Jones. I'd bet on Julio starting and JPW throwing there a whole lot. Plus, he's kind of due for a good, all year performance

Tebow/Stafford - For both you have to consider that in college, yards after the catch count. When they dump it off a yard, and the receiver (Harvin/Rainey/Moody or Moreno/King/Samual) takes it 26 yards up the feild, that's a 27 yard pass. Both can throw consistently. Florida had the better WR corp last year, but I think it will be a lot closer to even than last year. This will probably pan out to being less a question of ability and more a question of game plan.

Crompton - It could happen. Arian Foster could open up the pass game and take quite a few short ones long (like mentioned above). There'd have to be some major improvement in a couple of places though.

Dick - If every other starting QB in the SEC gets hurt

Arkansas' offense is going to knock some people out of their chairs.... but they won't be able to stop anyone. They have fast receivers and Dick looks like a different Qb than the one who started last season.

JPW, should beat Stafford or Tebow by 500 yards or less.

JPW took a step back last year under Applewhite. McElwain is an excellent QB coach and should have him at least back up to where Shula had him. Only he's not a 1st year QB now, he's a Senior.

i voted for JPW... he's pretty solid and can make big plays given the right circumstances.

casey dick.... omg..... he's gonna get hit hard this year. its a new offense and its his last year to get something done!! he has had decent numbers but man, the crowd hates this guy (dick and his two nutts) ..... probably still cuz of Baby Mitch.

Anyway, something fun to watch on JPW getting destroyed by Butu (what a beast), even though I voted for JPW:

You underestimate Petrinos Offensive mind. Dick will throw for a lot of yards this year.
