I was thinking about my post "making the SEC look bad" and decided to get into our OOC stats. I kind of got obsessed with it today (offseason syndrome), and put together some charts with stats that I pulled of ESPN. ESPN only holds records back to 2002, but I was fine with that because I'm not really interested in how Georgia ranked in 1972. The last six years is nice, recent, and relevant.

I started by compiling OOC records:

and bowl results:

From those two charts I got these rankings:

OOC WIN PERCENTAGE
1 GEORGIA 95.83%
2 LSU 88.00%
3 TENNESSEE 74.07%
4 ARKANSAS 73.91%
5 AUBURN 73.91%
6 KENTUCKY 70.00%
7 ALABAMA 69.23%
8 S CAROLINA 68.18%
9 FLORIDA 68.00%
10 OLE MISS 57.14%
11 MISS ST 47.37%
12 VANDERBILT 37.50%

--------------------------

BOWL PERFORMANCE (W/YR)
1 GEORGIA 83.33%
1 AUBURN 83.33%
3 LSU 66.67%
4 ALABAMA 50.00%
5 TENNESSEE 33.33%
5 KENTUCKY 33.33%
5 FLORIDA 33.33%
5 OLE MISS 33.33%
9 ARKANSAS 16.67%
9 S CAROLINA 16.67%
9 MISS ST 16.67%
12 VANDERBILT 0.00%

--------------------------

BOWL PERFORMANCE (W/AT)
1 KENTUCKY 100.00%
1 OLE MISS 100.00%
1 MISS ST 100.00%
4 GEORGIA 83.33%
4 AUBURN 83.33%
6 LSU 66.67%
7 ALABAMA 50.00%
7 S CAROLINA 50.00%
9 TENNESSEE 40.00%
10 FLORIDA 33.33%
11 ARKANSAS 25.00%
12 VANDERBILT 0.00%

--------------------------

I was happy to see that we represent the conference so well in OOC games and bowls. Then I started wondering what the in conference looks like, so here it is:

That yeilds these rankings:

IN CONFERENCE WIN %
1 AUBURN 77.08%
2 LSU 76.47%
3 GEORGIA 72.55%
4 FLORIDA 69.39%
5 TENNESSEE 64.00%
6 ARKANSAS 50.00%
7 ALABAMA 46.81%
8 S CAROLINA 41.67%
9 OLE MISS 33.33%
10 KENTUCKY 29.17%
11 MISS ST 18.75%
12 VANDERBILT 16.67%

Auburn's undefeated year really helped them in this area to make them the team that has won the best % of SEC matchups in the last six years.

LSU came in a close second, and I have to say that when I was pulling these stats down I saw a lot of high numbers (ranks) next to teams that LSU put up W's against (in and out of conference). They really have been a dominant force.

We represent the conference really well during the season and in bowls. Florida had our number for a few years and we lost to both Kentucky and Vandy (their only SEC win that year) a couple of years ago, but we still finished high. I hope we keep moving up that list.

Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and LSU have all kept a bowl game for the past six years.

I always quickly get bored with stats that go back to the crusifixion. Who really cares how your team was doing when Newt Rockne was tearing up the feild? I wish that more stat collections would keep it recent.

Well, that's all I have. Guess I'll have to go back to watching that clock tick now:brick:

Good post.
It's nice to see that 10 of the 12 teams have won over 50% of their OOC games.

Good Post! You should start on the rest of the conference to see were everyone else compare to the SEC.

That's a good idea, but it sounds like too much work

Did everyone agree with my decision to leave 1AA wins out? My thought is that no one cares if you can pull out a W against a team that's not even in your division. I guess Michigan found out that people care if you can't, but the reverse is kind of meaningless (at least in my opinion).
