Rumours abound that DT Kenrick Ellis is no longer on the team, and is looking to transfer to a 1-AA school, possibly Charleston Southern. This is a "somewhat" sizable loss for us: Kenrick has had weight issues since he came to Columbia, and it looked to put him in the Stanley Doughty doghouse with SOS. It looked like Ellis had gotten a handle on his weight last season, and finally worked his way into a start in our last game of the season against Clemson.

But coming into this spring, Ellis was over 350 pounds, and really didn't practice much with the 1st team this spring. Kenrick had MAD potential - especially against the run, something the Gamecocks sorely needed last season, and will again this season - but only if he could control his weight. If he wasn't physically able to stay on the field for necessary lengths of time, then he'd forever be a down specialist for us, and a back-up. Looks like we cut our losses....

No official word of Ellis' departure, or specific reason for it, but it's basically been confirmed without being confirmed, if that makes sense.....

I hope this is fake... I really saw him as a starter and a big impact player this year and beyond. His size and agility (when his weight is around 320) was amazing last year in his limited time on the field.

Should hear something solid later this evening

I have heard it from my sources as well, but noone seems to know the reason (except that maybe he feels he can't get his weight under control).

Latest rumor I have heard is possibly a second failed drug test, which would mean he would be suspended all year. He was suspended for the first three games this year. It's a loss, but DL is by far our deepest position on the team. I can also tell you Brad Lawing stays on him constantly in practice.

He's definitely gone. It was the bud smoking that did him in. I know the obvious reaction is going to be "woe is us" but honestly if he's blazing all the time, how much production would we have gotten out of him? Jarriel King ought to fill that hole nicely once he gets here. Kenrick is just another 4-star athlete with a 1-star attitude.

As all of y'all have said already, I can confirm it was drugs.

Fat, high, and stupid doesn't help either.

No "woe is us" from me--- a few more flushes and our program will be in much better shape. This young man was given opportunities that many can only dream of and chose not to take advantage of them. Stick by your guns!!!

I agree! Playing favorites will infect our team badly, just like it turned when Lou started doing it. Get in line and be a team player or move on.
