This is kind of a what if thread.
I wasn't really able to sleep this past night so I watched some old SC games just for some fun. I've just finished watching the '01 Bama game and came away with somewhat of a realization. After watching that whole game and parts of others from the '01 season, I was truly amazed.
Guys, back then, we DID NOT have good players. Compared to our competition at the time, they were undersized, not as strong, and not as athletic or coordinated. We were out-manned almost every game. We did not have good players whatsoever, but we had a GREAT team. They got at it every snap, and would lay their heart out there. They had to do that, otherwise, we'd have gotten destroyed every game.
The thing I find interesting is that this is the '01 season, not the '00. In '01 we couldn't really sneak up on anyone like we could the year before. The effort made all the difference, even when we fielded a far less talented team than the opposition.
We have good players now. We have great players now. What if these players came together and gave it their all every snap, like Ryan Brewer, like Brian Scott, like Phil Petty?
