Gloria James doesn't like to see her little boy get beat up.

LeBron James yells at mom Gloria to sit down Monday night. See more highlights from the incident and the playoffs.

So when she saw Paul Pierce drag LeBron James into the crowd on a drive to the basket, Gloria jumped up to his defense.

Now, she might want to wash LeBron's mouth out with soap.

As Gloria approached the scuffle, Cleveland's star forward told his mom to sit down, using language that might have offended a few lipreaders.

"I told her to sit down with some language I shouldn't have used. Thank God today wasn't Mother's Day, it was yesterday," James said after Monday night's 88-77 victory.

But James swears he was just looking out for her, trying to make sure she doesn't miss any games.

"Even though that's my mother, the commissioner doesn't care if it's your mother or your kids or anybody, you can't allow fans and players to get involved like that. And I can't afford for my mom not to be at every last one of my games."

Kevin Garnett, trailing on the play, tried to calm her and Wally Szczerbiak approached her for a high five, but Gloria James was too angry to pay attention to either.

Szczerbiak was impressed. "She was fired up. It was great. She was animated, she was pumped up. She's LeBron's mother, she was obviously amped up like the rest of the crowd."

She returned to her seat shortly after, and the Cavs went on to win Game 4 and even the series against the Celtics at two games apiece.

He probably got some of his fire and determination from being raised by her! It would be hard to see your little boy wronged out there on the court! She just couldn't do it.

No matter the situation, my mom would beat my ass if I told her to sit down using some vulgar language.

My obituary would be in todays paper. I was raised by my grandmother and even though she stood at 5' tall in heels her authority was just short of God's.

Here is an example of how she could and did strike the fear of God in people. She also raised her nephew who was several years older then me. He was about 6' 4" and around 240 range. He graduate high school in the early 1960's and joined the army. After basic training he went to jump school and was assigned to the 101st. Airborne div. When he got his first leave to come home he went out on a date with his high school sweetheart. Mom (that's what we called my grandmother) told him to be home no later than 9:30! Well he wore his dress uniform to impress his girl and went out on his date. When he came home over an hour late Mom met him at the door with a belt in hand. He ran through the yard, across the road and she caught him as he was trying to get over a barbed wire fence to the pasture. She made him pull his pants down and wore his tail out right then and there. He could not go anywhere until his leave was over. He told me this story when I was a little kid. Every time he and his wife (the same girl from the date BTW) would come over he treated her with respect and did so till the day we laid her in the ground. He told me that since she raised him from the time he was a baby, then she has earned the respect that any child should have for his mother. That is a lesson that stuck with me though life. No matter how big, rich, famous, or powerful you become, you still owe everything you have and that you are to your mom and you should always treat her accordingly.

For those thinking he is some sort of whipped Momma's boy, you should know that he later served in Vietnam as an infantry platoon sergeant where he received two purple hearts and the bronze star.
