Just saw this, and I was kind of shocked.

FanNation | Huddle Up | 2009 Mock Draft (http://fannation.com/blogs/post/185277?bcnn=yes)

Apparently folks think Stafford is not only going to declare for the draft next year, but that he'll be the #1 overall pick.

I really don't see him going next year... .call me skeptical but I don't see him going from the average level of play he's been turning out to #1 overall status in a single season. Maybe I'm wrong though. Thoughts?

Can a non-UGA fan chime in?
I think that Stafford will have a big year next season. And should he declare....then I could see him being the #1 overall pick. I think he would certainly go to the first team who needs a QB.

That being said, I would be shocked to see Matthew leave early.

Yeah I don't know, I just don't recall many QB's declaring early. RB's, yeah all the time, but it seems the trend is for QB's to stay through their Senior year. Especially with the potential that the Dawgs have over the next 2 years.... I think he stays.

I mean, the thought of a Georgia player being the #1 overall pick is very exciting. But I gotta be selfish :D

If he truly becomes the projected #1 pick, he would almost have to go early. I'm just not sure he is ready to be projected #1.

If the money is there, Stafford will leave. Fans like to think that players are influenced by what their teams may be capable of the following year but it ALWAYS comes down to the $$.

I think if he leaves he will be the #1 pick. It's going to be a very weak QB class next year.

In the long run, I'd say it would benefit Georgia, as no doubt it would only add even more thump to our recruiting power. The if Moreno followed in the 2010 draft, and was a 1st round top five pick, we could easily rival perennial top 5 recruiting schools like Notre Dame, USC, etc.

Stafford, with even a huge year next, will not be an overall #1 in my opinion.

I'd also like to think that since Tebow has said that he will stay 4 years Stafford will too. But you never know.

I once said that I would never get married. Ask my wife how that turned out.

Y'all wanna know who the top senior quarterbacks are in terms of NFL prospects for 2009? Curtis Painter of Purdue and Graham Harrell of Texas Tech. That's what I've heard so far from ESPN, Fox, etc. If Stafford puts up numbers, then the competition will virtually force him to go pro.

Thats it, seriously? Holy crap... I didn't realize it was that thin. It's a good thing UGA is deep at QB. There's Joe Cox, also a Junior this season who would start at any other school... Logan Grey will be a redshirt sophomore next year, and we've got two 4 star (one will likely be a 5 star by signing day) QB's red-shirting this year. Thats the only thing that makes me not panic at this news.

Stafford is a bad boy, scary thing is he's not even developed yet ....the NFL sees the potential, he's got the mass to take the NFL rigors, got a cannon for an arm and he's accurate........he still a little uneasy in the pocket but my god he's still got embryonic fluid all over him

I said this in a post awhile back but wait for Snead at Ole Miss, he was ahead of Stafford coming out of high school IMO as far as development, Snead has a little more arm strength believe it or not but needed to work on touch when I saw his HS vids....I think Snead is gonna be the class of the conference at QB

No need for UGA to worry about the quarterback position. Recruit a quality one every year, and you'll never have to worry about this. UGA has done just that. If UGA loses Stafford, it's not going to make me jump for joy and help me sleep easier at night. One look at the depth chart will keep any educated UGA fan calm and any educated fan of any other school worried.

Stafford and Perrilloux both have two more years (if they stay). Provided both live up to their potential, the battle of the QB draft will be between these two in 2010.

I highly doubt that. With the recent growing emphasis on character.... I doubt that Perrilloux will ever crack round 3 of the NFL draft.

Well, you know... after he wins one of those Heismans he's talked about.

he may be projected as number 1 now but after they tear apart his game and the fact that he only had one big season(assuming he has a big one this year) i dont think he would be the number 1 overall pick but mabe the 1st qb taken. that being said i think moreno is more likely to go then stafford

I have yet to see any publication where Stafford isn't projected as a Top 5 pick next year if he comes out. The QB class is as weak as it could possibly be.

As far as Geaux's comment concerning Perrilloux and Stafford being the battle for the top of the QB draft in 2010, I really don't need to remind you that Tim Tebow is only a junior this year right?

This projection has 7 SEC players going in the Top 10 picks. Although it's probably that some of these guys won't come out next year.

Oh, don't worry.....they also have a projected 2009 draft where Tebow leaves early, as well. Knowshon and Percy, too:

Here's another one that has Percy gone, but no Tebow or Knowshon:

But they all have the same guy at #1 overall!!

Edit: damn, you beat me to the punch...... :(

I could very easily see the Gators having two top 10 picks and maybe even two top 5 picks next year if Percy Harvin stays healthy. Brandon Spikes will be a Top 10 pick if he can produce like he did last year. He has all of the measurables and is a tackling machine. Percy Harvin is alot bigger now, currently around 200 lbs and that should vault him into the Top 10 if he can stay healthy this year.

JaMarcus Russell really only had one big season. Heck, he really only had one big game. The Sugar Bowl got him his money.

Big deal, he played in 11 of 13 games last year, and he was out of 1 because of a virus. I hardly think that qualifies him as injury-prone. And, despite missing the 2 games, he still rushed for 800 yards on 83 attempts, for a 9.2 yards per carry average. Throw in the 858 yards receiving on 59 catches, for a 14.5 yards per catch average... and ask Gators if they're concerned.

In his freshman season, he played in 13 of 14 games, rushed for 437 yards on 41 carries, for a 10.4 yards per carry average; and caught 34 balls for 427 yards and a 12.6 yards per catch average.

Who is this injury-plagued ball player you speak of anyway? Sounds like some wishful thinking on somebody's part.

Here's something scary to consider: If this banged up, lame, hobbled, injury-riddled nobody has 2522 yards in his first 2 seasons (1 as a starter), and is averaging 11.62 yards per touch, what's gonna happen if he comes back even healthier after the surgery?

He just had his surgery early to take care of his heel, and be full-speed by fall. Meyer ain't worried, so gatoru ain't worried.

He's missed 3 games in his college career and apparently he's had a heel problem since high school. If anything Percy should have gotten this problem looked at sooner and he might have been better off. In any case, like GatorU said, he's been plenty productive and I'll take 11 or 12 games with Percy Harvin over a full 13 or 14 games from any WR you guys have, including AJ Green or Tavarres King.

Guys I don't think there's really any reason to be competing over who's players are going to go higher in the draft. Either way I think its reasonable to assume that the SEC is going to produce an insane number of top rated NFL draftees in the next 2 seasons, and thats something to be proud of, whether its a Gator, a Dawg or a Tiger. It all speaks to the prestige and caliber of the conference that our teams are competing in.
